MLG Columbus 2011 LB Finals
Halo Waypoint has some good MLG Pro gameplay up today - it's the Losers Bracket Finals from MLG Columbus last year. Dynasty and Str8 Rippin fight it out for third place! (Louis Wu 21:33:06 UTC)

STRIDE Championship Series: Match 4
Halo Waypoint has a Stride Championship match - a 2v2 match, Clutch and Cloud (Believe the Hype) vs Hysteria (Triggers Down) and Heinz (Dynasty). Great gameplay! (Louis Wu 18:24:31 UTC)

MLG Orlando - Wrapped Up
Another thing I missed this weekend was MLG Orlando - Dynasty took first place in the Reach competition, beating out Infamous for the $20,000 top prize. (eon Instinct, the favorite going in, went home in 5th place.) There's a video recap if you missed it, the Hall of Champions, the brackets... and plenty of rebroadcast vids available. (Louis Wu 18:36:54 UTC)

MLG Anaheim - what's in a name, anyway?
MLG Anaheim wrapped up last night, and eon instinct (basically, the Final Boss guys who lost their name) crushed the competition. (Although the final match info page suggests that Status Quo won the last game, the recap disagrees - and the Bracket listings and the Leaderboards both point out that eon instinct won 21 games while losing 0.) A new dynasty emerges? Or is this just an old one with a new name? (Louis Wu 14:42:57 UTC)

The Bombs Bursting On-Air
MLG is hosting a 10-hour live Fourth of July broadcast, and at 7:15 p.m. EST, you can catch Status Quo vs. Dynasty in a best of five "Reach" showmatch. As with all live broadcasts, the time is tentative, so be sure to check in 15 to 30 minutes beforehand to make sure you don't miss it! (Hitmonchan 20:17:18 UTC)

Tyrant's Mythic Tips and Tricks Vol III
Tyrant's back with a new collection of Mythic Tips and Tricks - this one focuses on Pillar of Autumn, just in time to make this week's big challenge just a bit easier. It contains a plethora of tricks and exploits that will allow you to speed through areas normally filled with nasty Covenant characters. In some cases, there are multiple techniques for a particular area - so you can pick the one that works best for your normal playstyle! (Louis Wu 16:11:28 UTC)

Digging in the Couch Cushions, Round Two
Took a LONG time - but I can still say "I read every single post on the HBO forum". Caught up! Here's what I found since the last roundup (well, through a day or two ago):

  • I almost skipped this, because I noticed Grim's posting about a 'Nasty' montage on our front page earlier this week... I'm glad I looked. FALL3Npro stopped by last week with word of his Halo Reach/Halo 3 montage, Lost Transmission - heavy on the editing, full of sick gameplay. Check it out!
  • Leviathan was inspired by Halo: Cryptum to try and visualize the War-Sphinx - those massive protectors set to guard the Didact. The end result is... awesome. (I mean, seriously awesome. Follow that link.)
  • masugn pointed out the most recent update to Isaac Hannaford's blog - more vehicle designs. Awesome stuff! (Don't miss the concept art for Deliver Hope Hannaford points you to over at Evan Shipard's site, either...)
  • pete_the_duck finished off his Fall of Beta comic... in text format. If you don't remember the comic, never fear, he's included a summary of Part 1 (which WAS finished), along with links to the original artwork. I have to say... had the story played out the way he wanted, I'd feel bad for the UNSC. Their finest hope... well, let's just say he's not the best shot around.
  • padraig08 ran across a parody song that's been on YouTube for several months now - but hasn't turned up here yet. ScreenTeamShow used CeeLo Green's tune to create Frag You - a pretty cool (if overly autotuned) parody with guest appearances by Cortana, the Chief, and a hanging pretzel.
  • BlueNinja finally broke through some of the barriers on Long Night of Solace... and found the filming location for one of Reach's cutscenes. If you don't enjoy seeing the struts holding up the play's set, don't read this post. (Me, I find this stuff fascinating.) He did some cool stuff in New Alexandria, too.

From here on in, forum posts that are front-paged will be current again! (I've still got to go through Bungie's Comm Chatter, of course... but that's for later.) (Louis Wu 00:15:18 UTC)

Nasty Montage
urk found a pretty awesome montage on Bungie's Comm Chatter earlier. Don't miss Nasty's Halo Reach Montage. Some ridiculously awesome clips in there. Give it a watch! (GrimBrother One 17:57:20 UTC)

OLR, AntC Updates
jon cjg has released new vids for both his One Life Remaining and Arby 'n' the Chief series - OLR S2 Episode 12 has nasty goings-on at the University of Esoteria's graduation ceremony, and Arby 'n' the Chief S4 Episode 10 ("Night of the Evading Dead") has our heroes teaming up against a griefer. (Loved the 'Blue Thunder' moment.) Go watch. (Louis Wu 18:00:59 UTC)

MLG DC - 2 in a row for FB
Congratulations to Final Boss, who came back from the Losers Bracket to win MLG DC this weekend! (They were placed in the Losers Bracket by Dynasty - but then came back to beat them in the Losers Bracket Finals, and took Triggers Down in the WB Finals. Amazing!) Full recaps can be found on MLGPro.com. (Louis Wu 16:33:02 UTC)

Halo Reach Rap

The Number One Video Game Series?
The Guiness Book of World Records held a poll to see which videogame franchise was the most popular amongst gamers (that voted in their poll). Halo ranks #1. Wonga! Thanks to Soup Nasty, who found this at Kotaku. (Louis Wu 19:24:31 UTC)

Halo 2 DLC no longer available
So it turns out that Microsoft has already taken downloadable content for the original Xbox offline, in preparation for the termination of the service for that console in April. Why is this a bad thing? Because many of us haven't grabbed recent copies of the Halo 2 downloadable maps - and the Xbox 360 has a nasty habit of corrupting original content. Without those maps (which you can no longer download), you can't play in any of the current Matchmaking playlists. Ugh! Thanks to Avateur for the heads-up. (Bungie says they're working on it.) Montage-o-mania
A pair of fun montages culled from the Bungie Blog - Mini Waz put together some nicely timed gameplay on the Mythic Maps, and B1gM4cB1gPimp1n and GOT NO chAncE do some nasty vehicle-based killing in a seven-minute splatter montage. (Louis Wu 19:00:03 UTC)

Opticast Episode 1
Still struggling to dig out of this nasty flu - temperature is down to 101 today (topped 104 yesterday), so let's try and clear SOME of this news out of the queue. Apologies for any lack of detail... first up, FyreWulff told us about Opticast Episode 1 - contains an interview with Octodeath. (Louis Wu 23:25:21 UTC)

Australian Search Habits - and Gaming Prefs
Wow, that stings - in the midst of an article at News.com.au about how more Australians search for gaming links than for porn, there's a nasty little shot at Halo 3:

There are more searches for Call Of Duty 4 than Halo 3 in Australia and the UK, most likely because it is a far superior game.

Ouch! (Then again, the article goes on to say that Australia's leading the world in searches for 'purple monkey dishwasher', so maybe a little failure in objective journalism isn't the biggest thing to worry about...) (Louis Wu 13:57:19 UTC)

What's been goin' on
Tonight's Bungie Weekly Update contains a congratulatory mention of the fact that (although it didn't happen exactly on Bungie Day) the 7 billion campaign kills goal has, indeed, been reached - it was hit earlier today. There's also a summary of the past week, a short teaser of things to come... and a sizeable sampling of the sort of nasty private messages Luke gets over the course of a week. You can read it on Bungie.net - or you can read it in our Weekly Update Archive. Look forward to the future! (Louis Wu 01:28:19 UTC)

Free Halo 3? Not Hardly.
Everyone's seen those 'Get a free Xbox 360 with a free copy of Halo 3!' ads popping up on websites - most of us realize that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. That doesn't stop people from trying, though - and I read a writeup this morning that should help you decide whether following those links are a good idea for you, or not. The nasty part of the whole process is you have to commit to spending cash long before you are made aware of the full cost of the endeavor. If you decide, partway through (as the writer's husband did) that it's getting too rich for your blood... you can fold, but not without losing SOMETHING. Worth reading. (Louis Wu 14:19:41 UTC)

Now I see why they call Shishka 'Lord British'.
Luke posted Bungie's response to the drumming they took from PraetoriaGuard - one might think, upon reading it, that Bungie are pretty sore losers. We all know that can't possibly be the case... so I'm guessing that Bungie's servers were hacked by mean, nasty representatives of the PraetoriaGuard. Yeah, that's it. (Louis Wu 04:59:58 UTC)

Soon Parted.
Wow, things are REALLY slipping through the cracks. Yesterday's One One Se7en got 75% of the way through the news posting process - but no further. I guess I passed out there somewhere. Anyway, it's up now. Apologies for the delay. I suppose, after reading it, some of you might choose to send me nasty mail for correcting my oversight... (Louis Wu 16:05:23 UTC)
