Halo Is In The News! Whoa!

Halo Fan Selling Collection to Raise Family
Gah. Mark Wyatt-Knott sent us a note a few days ago, mentioning a series of Halo-related eBay auctions (in the UK) that were set up to help his family raise money for fertility treatments... a combination of travel and lack of email access has caused this mail to be neglected until today. Today is the day the auctions end. Go look - there's a wide variety of items, from action figures to t-shirts to books and more. Huge apologies for the short notice - again, these end TODAY. Halo 4 Gametypes - Regicide
Gah - I pulled this out yesterday, but forgot to post it - RC Master has taken the really vague description of the new gametype 'Regicide' (mentioned briefly in a recent Game Informer interview) and attempted to flesh out how it will work. Halo Universe Panel at SDCC - got a question?
Gah - meant to post this early this morning, but things didn't go well. Halo Waypoint's Alison Stroll is moderating the Halo Universe panel tomorrow morning at San Diego Comic Con, and yesterday opened a thread on the Waypoint forums where you could post questions. IGN for Haiti - Oonsk Sells Big
Gah. I missed the IGN for Haiti auction endings yesterday, and they don't seem to have put up any way to look at already-finished auctions, so it's unclear how they did. I DO have a link for the Oonsk and Mister Chief painting by Frank O'Connor, though; I can't tell you who won, but I can say that the final price was $662. Not too shabby at all! Halo Legends, Waypoint revealed
A quick link roundup relating to yesterday's Halo panel discussion at the San Diego Comic-Con:
- The event was live-blogged by IGN and G4TV (thanks, 2900d4u)
- The trailer that showed on GTTV last night is now available online on GameTrailers (and elsewhere, of course, but since they're all stealing it from GT, I'm just linking to the original)
- There's Firefight play footage from the Microsoft booth at YouTube and GameVideos (thanks, Kibbles)
- NeoGAF's Voltron64 wrote up his experiences of the day
- If you log into Xbox LIVE, and visit the 'Inside Xbox' section, the current 'Major's Minute' feature has Major Nelson interviewing Frank O'Connor about both Halo Legends and Waypoint - a nice 60-second overview of the pair. (Thanks, Domino Theory.)
Our forum is chock-full of discussion about the Legends trailer, Waypoint, and the future of the Halo franchise. Funniest exchange of the night: Jayshum posted an image that summed up his (negative) feelings... and Frankie replied, Frank-style. Just a couple of new comics today (no Reclaimer this time out - get better, TTL Demag0gue!):
- The Catfish has posted 2501 - Episode 56 (thanks, urk).
- Elnea has posted not only Halo Action Figure #179 (Judgement)... but also a fantastic little video paying tribute to the Believe ad, while still staying true to HAFT's surreality.

Buckell Back in the Hospital
Gah - Tobias Buckell is BACK in the hospital, this time with a pulmonary embolism. (This is basically a blood clot in the artery that brings blood to his lungs.) Best wishes to the man - his Halo novel is now out everywhere, but he's in. Several people sent this in - thanks to Aaron Spuler, and to General Battuta for starting a thread on our forum.

TTL - now with less shielding
Gah. I hate mornings that get split up. I nearly missed the Tied the Leader update - XerxdeeJ whined mightily about the SWAT playlist (c'mere, boy, I have some lead for your noggin), a TTL-based Xbox 360 theme for a contest has been highlighted, more cool panoramas have been posted, and there's even some CoD4 stuff to read. Guilt O' Lantern: Yes, It's Happening
GAH! Curses! I forgot AGAIN! Last week, I was reminded that we hadn't announced anything about this year's pumpkin-carving contest, which has become a tradition here at HBO. I realized I hadn't even thought about it - probably had something to do with some stupid videogame launch or something at the end of last month, it sort of sucked up all my time. I said I'd look into the possibility of prizes (which I did)... but I forgot to actually DO anything about it. So this is a news post that says no, we don't have a page up yet, no we can't tell you what the prizes are going to be, but yes, there's going to be a 2007 Guilt O' Lantern carving contest, and yes, we'll have a host of sweet prizes, with a deadline of October 31, 2007 for entries. Do NOT send us anything yet; we aren't set up at this point. But if you want to start planning your carving... go for it. Full announcement coming soon. (Louis Wu 21:47:19 UTC)
