The details are in the armor...
...or is it armour? Anyway, MoaHerder from HaloArchives posted an analysis of the Halo 5 beta trailer that points out some interesting things that I completely missed, doh! The most interesting part of the analysis is that MoaHerder highlights that Nihilus Shadow found that one Spartan models has 104 written in braille on the chest plate. It might just be a fun little easter egg, or it might have bigger implications in terms of who we can expect to see in Halo 5. Thanks to zofinda for pointing this out - go read! A Halo Bulletin to Remember
DOH! I went to all the effort to localize the latest Halo Bulletin (looks like a pretty major CMS upgrade at 343!), and forgot to post a note about it! Go give it a read - the focus is Jessica 'bs angel' Shea, who just moved from Community Manager to 'Studio Operations PM' - congrats to her! There are other tidbits - new playlist changes, a livestream tomorrow (go watch 343's pro team take on its community!), and some nice screens. Enjoy! (Louis Wu 23:41:59 UTC)

Weekly Halo Bulletin - Late
Weekly Halo Bulletin - Late Somehow, I found the time Wednesday night to localize the newest Halo Bulletin, and to mention this fact on our forum - but I couldn't find the time to post it here on the front page. DOH! If you missed it, go give it a read - either on Halo Waypoint or in our Halo Bulletin Archive. It's full of birthday celebrations for Halo 4 and fun 343 Halloween costumes. With some kickass ODST screenshots, to boot. (Louis Wu 15:37:58 UTC)

Flag must be at home to - DOH!
pete_the_duck participated in last week's Classic Customs get-together... and his writeup is as epic as the CTF game they all experienced. Go read it. (Louis Wu 16:56:49 UTC)

Halo Universe Panel Redux
With the Halo Universe Panel footage from Comic Con coming on so late yesterday, we wanted to make sure you knew where to catch it. You can find it on the Halo Waypoint YouTube channel in four parts here: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4. Some great discussion on the future of the fiction in the Halo Universe. Go and check it out! Official Halo Universe panel footage
Halo Waypoint is slowly but surely uploading the official footage from yesterday's Halo Universe panel. Here's part one of the panel. I'll update this post with the other parts as they go online. There are technical issues with the audio, which means that some people can be hard to hear -- especially Frankie. 343 is working to get fixed audio from Comic Con, but until then, enjoy this version! Update: Halo Waypoint now has parts two, three, and four up for your viewing pleasure on their YouTube channel. Go check them all out! -Grim (Hitmonchan 22:05:05 UTC)

The Halo Bulletin: 7/13/11
DOH! I totally forgot to point out the Halo Bulletin that Waypoint put up last night (and that was added to our Halo Bulletin Archive, even). Discussion about what's going to be showing at San Diego Comic-Con next weekend, what you can expect at Halo Fest next month at PAX, and more. Go read it! (Louis Wu 14:35:12 UTC)

Scarab
A new Halo: Faith song has been released - go listen to Scarab. Thanks to GAF's wwm0nkey for the heads-up. Update: DOH! I mentioned Scarab over a week ago. (In fact, I thought I was being clever, then, because I found it on my own after munky pointed out The Landing.) Guess it didn't stick... thanks, DHalo. (Louis Wu 14:29:56 UTC)

Achievement DUCK
DOH! Almost forgot! pete_the_duck whipped up Achievement DUCK, a challenge map you can play yourself. Did you know you could shoot Killballs? Apparently, you can. pete_the_duck is an evil man, I think. (Louis Wu 14:06:54 UTC)

April Matchmaking Changes Live
DOH! Completely forgot to reinforce that the Matchmaking playlist changes for April went live yesterday - I spent a couple of hours 'testing' them last night, but neglected to remind anyone who'd forgotten! The Active Playlists page contains a full rundown of new gametypes and lists, and the March 18 Weekly Update contains the gory details (scroll down to "Matchmaking Updatin'!"). Pre-order bonus for Reach (in the UK, at least)
Robbert014 noticed that UK-based game resellers are listing a pre-order bonus for the Standard Edition of Halo: Reach - a downloadable Recon Helmet variation. Folks on our forum are wondering if this is available in the US, as well, and if it's just the Standard edition, or all three editions. If we find out more, we'll let you know! Update: DOH! Didn't notice the tidbit in the official press release that

"As a special bonus, fans can receive a token to unlock an exclusive in-game Spartan Recon Helmet, by picking up a copy of the game on launch day at North American retail stores, and outside of North America by making a pre-order reservation at participating retailers."

Solves that problem... (thanks, Halo2uman) (Louis Wu 18:21:57 UTC)

Brrrraaaaiiinnnsssssss...
Doh! Totally forgot to note this earlier, but the Double EXP playlist is live for the weekend, and it's Bigfoot! No, wait, that's not right. What're those scary monster things - lots of movies about 'em lately? Vampires? No, er... ooh! Zombies! Yep, zombies, that's it.

What was I saying? (mnemesis 21:16:59 UTC)

Playtest Going Well. MP Content Inbound.
nobleactual.com, Bungie's Dev Blog, has been updated again - the lack of timestamps is frustrating, but the content is pretty intriguing. Progress on the playtest is really positive - this is awesome! And a multiplayer "bomb" (Marcus' word) will be dropped either today or tomorrow - so keep your eyes peeled. (There's a thread started on our forum - thanks, Ragashingo - if you're interested in speculating...) Update: many people let us know that the Dev Blog RSS feed has timestamps. DOH! Hawty McBloggy found a fan who built an entire Halo environment... for his fish. Lucky Fish! Update: DOH! Chris101b reminded us that we posted pictures of this aquarium five months ago. WHERE'S MY STEEL TRAP? (Louis Wu 13:38:47 UTC)

An amazing tool for Forgers
If you're finding yourself wishing you had a way to plan out your Sandbox-based maps before you got down to Forging them, wish no more - WhtButterflyLiz created a full reconstruction of Sandbox (all three levels) in Sketchup... along with all components available in Forge (each fully textured). This NeoGAF post by squidhands contains a download link for the package, as well as a link to a writeup of the project (with pointers) on Forge Hub. 44 mb of Sandbox goodness... go grab a copy! Update: DOH! Looks like this one was so good, we posted it twice. (First made the news back in March.) STEEL TRAP HAS HOLES! (Thanks, urk. Hope the windows get fixed.) (Louis Wu 13:12:28 UTC)

42 without having to wait 10 million years
DOH! I totally managed to miss the 'Broken In' article with Vic DeLeon posted on Thursday afternoon - it's a great read with the Senior Environment Artist, a fantastic look back at a pretty long career and some inside information on a pretty funny incident during the creation of Halo 2. The man's got a lot to say about the gaming industry, and about how awesome it is to work for Bungie. Go read it! (Louis Wu 00:30:24 UTC)

Taunting Kills in Waverly Hills
Duncan was the first to notice that in last night's episode of The Simpsons, Homer was playing Halo... and teabagging his opponent. You can watch it for yourself at Hulu.com. (Mirel grabbed a few screens, as well.) (Louis Wu 14:52:04 UTC)

pete_the_duck wrote up another night of exploits on Xbox LIVE - and added a fun highlights video. Both are worth your time. Comments can go in his forum thread. Update: Whoa, another one - it's a trend! This one was put together by Avateur. Lots of pics. Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:09:10 UTC)

Listening to Gamers Play, not Talk
The Screen Play blog in the Sydney (AU) Morning Herald has an article about Framework, a game development conference that took place in Melbourne yesterday. A significant chunk of it is devoted to some information from Keith Steury, who was involved in usability testing for Halo when he worked for Microsoft Game Studios. There's some fascinating info about how decisions were made, and what sort of changes came about because of the testing. Go read! Update: DOH! Didn't notice Ding beat me to this by a few minutes. Worth the read twice, I guess. (Pretty funny that we focused on the same point for our headlines...) (Louis Wu 15:17:58 UTC)

AutoUpdate Reminder
There's a new Top Story over on B.net detailing the stuff to come in the autoupdate. It's nothing new, as it's all copied straight from the WWU from two weeks ago, but I suppose it means the AU is coming soon? Thank MasterChief2829 for the heads-up. Update: Doh! It's supposed to go live, uh, now-ish, or otherwise sometime this morning, according to the B.Net front page. (mnemesis 16:31:16 UTC)

Spartans in Disguise
Hawty McBloggy found a Master Chief Transformer on eBay - there aren't any pictures of it in vehicle form, but it's pretty awesome anyway. Go look. Update: DOH! I was too busy to actually follow the eBay link, so I missed all the shots of the transformed MC. Just for me, there's an updated pic in the story, showing the tank version. Thanks, Hawty! Lego Rifle
GryphonOsiris found (at TechEBlog) a Halo battle rifle made of Legos - and man, it's pretty impressive-looking! Update: DOH! PlasmaFire pointed out that this is just a mirror of a page we highlighted almost 2 years ago. Looks like the steel trap needs oiling again... (Louis Wu 19:33:10 UTC)

A Contest Needs a Way to Enter...
DOH! Somehow, I managed to announce the Guilt O' Lantern contest without activating the upload folder - not sure if this affected anyone, since we didn't get any emails saying "the upload doesn't work!", but it's working now. Sorry! (Louis Wu 23:57:18 UTC)
