VIDEO GAMES LIVE™, GEN CON, AND THE INDIANAPOLIS SYMPHONY PREPARE FOR FIRST GAME CONCERTS IN INDIANA
Record Setting Gaming Conference, World Class Symphony and Historic Venue to Celebrate Video Games
LOS ANGELES - August 7, 2006 - Right off the heels of the recent success in Houston & Chicago, renowned video game composers Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall are preparing for the first ever video game concert in Indiana. Video Games Live™ features music from the most popular video games performed by top orchestras and choirs around the world, combining exclusive video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, solo performers, electronic percussionists, and unique interactive segments to create an explosive one-of-a-kind entertainment experience. Two special performances will take place on Friday, August 11th and Saturday, August 12th at 8pm during Gen Con, the biggest, best attended and longest running table gaming convention in the world for the past 40 years. Last year Gen Con conventions drew more than 100,000 attendees. Both shows will be performed with the Indianapolis Symphony at the prestigious Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra is one of America-s leading orchestras whose mission is to advance the enjoyment and appreciation of symphonic music through performances at the highest artistic level and innovative programs that challenge, educate, enrich, and entertain. Constructed in 1916, the Hilbert Circle Theatre in downtown Indianapolis was one of the first motion picture palaces west of New York built especially for the purpose of showing feature-length photoplays. The historic theater also featured many of the leading entertainers of their eras, including Tommy Dorsey, Spike Jones, Frank Sinatra, Rudy Vallee, Glenn Miller, and Dizzy Gillespie among others. The Hilbert Circle Theatre is one of the few prominent early 20th century movie palaces that remains active and in operation today. "Performing Video Games Live with such a distinguished orchestra, venue, and convention helps to further legitimize the important cultural and artistic aspects of video games and their music," said Tommy Tallarico, famed video game composer and co-creator/executive producer of Video Games Live. "We are continuing to spread the word city by city that video game music and video games can be appreciated by all." "At Gen Con we are always looking for new and interesting ways to make each and every Con the best it can be for our thousands of attendees each year," said Peter Adkison, CEO of Gen Con. "We love the fact that Video Games Live will be at Indy this weekend." Video Games Live is once again opening the doors early to present a pre-show festival from 7:00pm - 8:00pm which is FREE to all ticket holders. Tickets ($22 - $62) for both shows are currently on sale at the Indianapolis Symphony website. The pre-show festival will include a competition sponsored by RedOctane featuring the yet to be released Guitar Hero™ II. A classic arcade game competition will also be held on the newly released Video Games Live Classic Arcade cabinet courtesy of DreamAuthentics. Competitions will also be held at the Video Games Live area during Gen Con. Other pre-show festivities include a costume contest where audience members will come dressed as their favorite video game characters to compete for speaker systems from Logitech. Finalists will be judged on stage by the audience. Other prizes throughout both evenings include a $2,500 Ferrari laptop courtesy of AMD which will be given away on stage during the Interactive Symphony segment, starring one of the most beloved classic arcade games of all time, Frogger, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Two audience members will compete for 90 seconds while the orchestra plays along, changing the musical score on-the-fly depending on what the contestants are doing on screen. This unique interaction with a live symphony has only ever been attempted and performed at Video Games Live. The audience will also be treated to a special solo performance by Video Game Pianist Martin Leung who will be performing his exclusive Final Fantasy® piano arrangement consisting of over ten Final Fantasy® favorites. The post-show meet-and-greet where fans can interact with renowned game composers and designers will consist of industry luminaries who have worked on projects such as Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Myst, Splinter Cell, Metroid Prime, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Madden Football, Earthworm Jim, Unreal, Prince of Persia, Finding Nemo, Chicken Little and many more!
