New York, NY, September 21, 2007 -- As gamers around the world prepare to finish the fight in Halo 3, Microsoft and Spike TV's Game Head are teaming up to celebrate the game's record-breaking launch and the die-hard Halo fan culture with an unprecedented night of multiplatform programming. "Halo 3: Countdown to Launch" premieres Monday, September 24 at 9 PM ET/PT throughout the movie "Goldeneye" and is immediately followed by the half-hour special "Halo 3: Launched!" at 12:30 AM ET/PT. Xbox Live will also come to life with exclusive, expanded Game Head videos. "We're excited to partner with Spike TV to create the official Halo 3 launch special," said Chris Di Cesare, director of creative marketing at Xbox. "We're treating this not just as a prime-time TV show, but also as a multi-platform experience with Xbox Live video content that enhances and builds on the show." The festivities get underway in New York City when Game Head host Geoff Keighley joins the Halo faithful as they count down the minutes to the game's first sale at midnight, set to be broadcast LIVE on Spike TV. Throughout the night reports from New York will be interspersed with fascinating vignettes filmed all around the Halo Nation. These segments profile hard-core Halo fans that do everything from make their own Master Chief armor to a 100-person strong paintball league that recreates famous Halo battles. Game Head also travels to game developer Bungie Studios in Kirkland, WA for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the game and a visit with Halo composer Marty O'Donnell in his studio. In addition, Halo fanatics won't want to miss a string of back-to-back exclusive unveilings, such as the first-ever look at the player's command ship in the forthcoming game "Halo Wars," and a behind-the-scenes tour of McFarlane Toys. Finally, the night caps off with a special performance from self-professed Halo fans Linkin Park. Simultaneous with the TV special, Xbox Live will feature a series of expanded Game Head segments that give players a deeper look at the fan culture and the rapidly-expanding Halo franchise. From Bungie's lead multiplayer designer describing how to win online against your friends to fan interviews at a special preview event, the complete launch experience is only possible by watching the special on TV and then exploring the expanded Xbox Live video content.
