The Contest

This one's pretty simple: Carve the coolest Halo-related pumpkin you can think of. Please the community, win a prize.

This is similar to last year's Halo-ween Pumpkin Carving contest at Bungie.net, except

  • It's being hosted by Bungie.org
  • It's 2004, not 2003
  • We're giving away some pretty cool prizes (not that B.net's weren't cool...)

SketchFactor has dug up the finalists from last year's contest - you can find them on this page.

The Prizes

Due to the enormous generosity of a donor who prefers to remain nameless, we have a super-cool first prize for this contest:

  • One Xbox (NTSC, comes with S-type controller)
  • One Extra Controller (S-type)
  • One Xbox DVD kit
  • One 8 MB Memory Card
  • Added 2 October 2004:Tim Dadabo, the voice of 343 Guilty Spark, will record a message of your choice on your home answering machine (in the voice of 343 Guilty Spark, of course)

Because you can't give away such a cool first prize and not have a runner-up prize, the second-place carver will go home with

  • One Camo Elite Action Figure
  • One Halo PC Strategy Guide
  • One S-type controller
  • One Bungie.org T-Shirt
  • Added 3 October 2004: One Halo Master Chief Mini-Action Figure (blue/black)

Update, October 1: Thanks to Uncle Mato, we can even add a third prize:

  • One S-type controller
  • One copy each of Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, and First Strike (all used)
  • Added 3 October 2004: One Halo Master Chief Mini-Action Figure (blue/black)

The Rules

1. Your picture must reach HBO HQ by midnight, Eastern time, October 31, 2004.

2. Your picture, if digital, must be at least 640x480 pixels.

3. Your picture cannot be digitally altered. If we even THINK it's digitally altered, we'll toss it. (Yeah, we stole that rule from Bungie. It's a good rule.)

4. Your picture must not have been entered in last year's contest at Bungie.net (or sent to us anytime since then; entries received before September 30 are void).

5. You must have a mailing address within the continental US or Canada. (Sorry about this one. The box is NTSC Region 1; you couldn't use it with normally-available games in Europe anyway.)

The Judging

Entries will be judged by the Halo community. Images will be put up in a gallery, starting November 1, and will be accessible for voting for one week. Votes can be cast by anyone with a valid email address (but if we suspect ballot stuffing, we're tossing ALL your votes - again, don't even give us a REASON to suspect you). Winners will be announced sometime after November 9th.

This is a pure popularity contest - make a pumpkin everyone thinks is the coolest, you'll win.

How to Submit Your Entry (or entries):

You have three options for getting your contest entries to us:

  1. Upload them to ftp://ftp2.bungie.org/halouploads/ using an FTP client
Update: Apologies - our FTP area was closed down in order to defeat the nasty people who were using our generosity to serve illegally-leaked Halo 2 material. Use this upload page instead.
    • If whatever you're using to upload files does not like this option, send us email at lantern@bungie.org, and we can set you up with a more conventional ftp option.
  2. Upload them to any webspace that you might have, and we can download them ourselves from there
  3. Send us a photo (or a CD, if you must) in the mail (the address is given below)

After you have done one of these three things, you need to send us an e-mail at lantern@bungie.org. Include the following information in your e-mail:

  1. Your name (or your online handle if you don't want us to use your name)
  2. The e-mail address where we should contact you
  3. How you sent your entry to us (was it an ftp upload, on your webspace, or in the mail?)
  4. Where we can find your entry -- if it was an ftp upload, give us the filename of the upload. If it's on your own web space, give us the URL of the file to download. If you sent it in the mail, tell us what the return address on the package is.

Make sure that you include ALL of the information that we ask for. Incomplete entries will be discarded.

If you're sending us a photo or CD, mail it to:

Good luck!
