well, what happens is, hmm hmm hmm, a violent explosion nearby caused the abandoned ship (master chief) to rock backwards and forwards, waking the master chief from his hyper sleep of five years. the power to the ship started working so the master chief floated up to the command bridge to see what was happening. something was shooting the ship from the planet they were circling. in the heat of the moment, the chief decided to bring the ship closer and as he entered the planets gravity, the ship was brought down and crash landed on the planet.
He woke later in a chiro tube, back at full health. he saw this strange creature staring at him. it looked like a covenant elite, but it was shorter and much, much older. it held a cane in its right hand and was hunched over it. the master chief slowly sat up, bewildered and wounded from the crash. he asked it "what are you?" and it replies slowly in a solemn tone "we are the forerunners" and the master chief answers in thought " so the prophet of truth was right, you do have a secret realm uh were are we?" as he exits the chiro tube. we are at the secret realm of the forerunners, no one has ever found us, and a spartan 2 aswell, how did you find us?" "that doesn't matter, I have to stay here, they have no use for me now" says master chief. (they start walking away from chiro tube) "No, No you must return to your realm you have much to do the flood" says the forerunner "the flood are gone" they are have not gone spartan, the outbreak has spread again" "fine, wheres Cortina?" asks the chief "ahh, I remember working on her (Cortina pops up holographic form) " chief we need to go back the flood have started destroying earth" says Cortina" fine, but how do you get there" ask chief " the teleporting devices, but you must go quickly, an argument has broken out among the forerunners on you, if you should be destroyed or not" says the forerunner "fine" says chief he uploads cortinas to his suit (shooting breaks out movie stops player begins playing) chief fights his way past other forerunners (you fighting)
get down to teleporters and appear on earth its all an eary green, like a swampy green mist infested with flood (chief and Cortina talk about how bad earth is and Cortina gets a report of a little stronghold of marines nearby (fight your way to the stronghold against flood) meet up with the arbiter ,some covenant and marines (all slightly confused) and fight your way to an extraction point. get taken away meet Johnson again on a UNSC ship and talk about how if they can lure away the flood from earth in a fake ship and lead them to another halo found while they were away with the chief already on it , ready to immediately destroy the halo once the flood reach it, but the monitor of the halo activates a shutdown mode on the halo to stop it blowing up when chief goes (after the shutdown is made) "I hate those things" and shoots the monitor. Cortina initiates the blowing up again but it takes some time and the flood ship crash lands on the halo. it doesn't have as many flood as they thought it would so the gravmind that's controlling them must have expected an ambush. so you must take over the flood ship and send out a distress signal. you make it there and send the distress signal so the ship comes to check it out but the main ship also crash lands but at the only exit point so you must fight your way there but they have already destroyed your escape ship. so the UNSC sends a pelican for you to pilot (hopefully the designers will make this feature if there is halo 4) and fly away while shooting at land based flood and remotely detonate the halo.
You are then dropped (by the way last level) at earth to mop up the major remainder of the flood so you fight against the flood for a while against flood hunters (new breed) and other flood soldiers until you pull out because there is too many of them but you get on the pelican and it shakes from a shot from a rocket launcher the flood found on earth and the chief falls out and the pelican flies away unaware that you fell out and you are left there with flood covering up your body and it slowly blanks out to darkness and says in white blood-smeared letters "To be continued"
