Chapter 1: What is a Spartan most afraid of???

John sat alone thinking back to the battle of Reach where he sent his fellow Spartans to go against hopeless odds that sent most to their grave. In his mind he could relive how each one of his teammates died. It was a plague, to him, tearing away at his very soul. And then on the covenant battle cruiser when two more fell to the covenant. But the one that haunted him more then anyone was his best friend, Sam.

The battle of Reach was two years since then the covenant attacked earth and almost won the war. But John Spartan-117 with the help ho Kelly, Fred, Will, Grace, and Linda fought the covenant back to their home world. Now the covenant was almost defeated launched a counterstrike with a new and deadly weapon.

Master Chief was awaken when he heard Kelly across the room reassembling her battle rifle. He sat there for a moment watching then looked around to see his other Spartans resting. John got up shaking of his stiffness and walked across the desolate barracks to where Kelly sat. Ever since Dr. Harlsey took her away with her she had never been the same. He asked her about it once but she never told him what really happened. John hated when things were bothering his teammates since it hindered their combat ability and since he cared for each one of his Spartans.

"Do you want to talk about it," questioned John giving her a quizzical look.

"I already told you about it," shot Kelly giving him a sly grin.

"I know you to well to believe that Kelly."

"I was so scared, I was alone and I felt lost without you and the other Spartans. I guess I will tell you about it now. Dr. Harlsey sent me to investigate something, I don't know what it was exactly, but what ever it was it was nothing what it seem. It was a covenant race unlike we have ever seen it was 12 ft tall maybe more. They had the same kind of surgery we had and wore white armor that made you want to look away. It looked like the armor was alike. The shields are 20 times stronger then anything we have. And had a sword that was a meter wide, half meter thick, and seven feet long. When they found out who we were it tore through them like they were rag dolls. Marines were cut in half by their huge swords bristling with a blue flame of plasma, which would come out of the sword burning their insides until they turned to glass. The pain and anguish on their faces will be forever etched in my mind. Those beasts had no sympathy and no sorrow for their victims. They were so strong that they could even rip a person in half with the bare hands with little effort. And I saw it right in front of my eyes. I barely made it out. I got so lucky John, I just wish I could have helped them."

"There was nothing you could have done to prevent their deaths Kelly. And is that it? There's nothing else."

"When we got there they were shipping out 200,000 strong and we also find where they were heading."

"Where?"

"Earth."

"So that's why we're here. Isn't?"

"Yes."

"You know Kelly, when I was on Halo I too was scared. I thought I was the only Spartan left. But its that fear that keeps us together and alive."

"What fear is that John?"

"The fear of being all alone..."

Chapter 2: "First Contact"

"Chief I just got a feed from the ONI," Cortana cackled into John's earpiece.

"Of what Cortana,"asked John.

"Its video of a covenant attack on the Hive in Sydney. All the brass got at but the 50,000 marines guarding it were slaughtered in about 20 minutes."

"Show me and patch it in to the other Spartans."

"I have to warn you Chief it is very graphic even for battle standards."

As Cortana brought up the footage she put all her subroutines to try and figure out what the hell happened to those marines. Something about it didn't make her feel right about the situations. Even though she's an AI she still felt sorry for those marines.

Master Chief watched as the his display HUD in his helmet flickered on and saw the main defenses of the Hive. In the outer defenses was a half a mile wide mine field with artillery sighted in the middle of it to make a kill zone. It had over a hundred gun emplacement, which most were the more powerful guas guns. At any time had two flights of longsword fights and over a 500 vehicles patrolling the outer building. Inside the Hive beneath the ground was a maze that you could get lost in. Auto-guns were everywhere and a new feature , a build in force field much like the Spartans shields. Just like with Reach it fell after everyone said it was impenetrable. But what troubled John the most was that how they got past the Super MAC guns and the atmosphere without being detected.

"Sarge we have contacts lots of contacts," a marine said before his guts were blown threw his back by a an unknown weapon.
The camera moved across to the mind field to and endless sea of grunts that charged threw the mind field to clear it out. Thousands dropped in the first few minutes of the charge. Eventually they got halfway in and the artillery hit them hard. The bodies were piling up about 6 deep but the grunts still came like moths to the flame. The tidal wave of grunts eventually reached the edge of the mind field and kept running towards the marines.

The marines help their ground with the help of the longswords fighters and the gun emplacements. Eventually the last grunt was killed and the marines cheered and waited for the unknown. Looking at the battle field blood was everywhere, limbs, guts, brains, you name it was on the battle field. It made some of the marines guts retched from the smell that came from the dead and dying.

At the same time that was happening several teams of camo elites had snuck into the base by a cloaked transport ship. One team secretly went into the building searching for the entrance to the Hive and at the same time killed anything that moved. The other two teams went to take out the powerplants that give power to the Hive.

After the grunts cleared out the mind field these behemoths started running at a amazingly fast pace for their size. They cleared the stretch in about a minute, the artillery didn't even have a chance to get a shot off. They slowed down to a walk as they reached the end of it. One of them on the side stepped on a mine it just stood there until the dust cleared and kept walking.

The longswords pilots saw the new targets and prepared to make a sweep. When the got within a 1000 meters of the creatures a few of them lifted up a gigantic weapon ,bigger then a hunters, and aimed at their prey. As the longswords approached a white beam of light cut threw the lead ship and tore it in half. "Break off, break off... Its no use " All the longswords were now a pile of rubble that didn't even recognize a ship.

The marines opened fire as soon as these invincible creatures got into range. They just kept on walking towards the marines like they didn't even notice that a wall a lead was hitting them. As soon as they reached the marines they used their speed to attack and kill all them. Some pulled out their swords while others just ripped the marines apart with their bare hands.

The camera cut out as a torso from a marine hit it. In about another minute the power was cut and everything went black. The video footage was only ten minutes long and it only took another ten minutes for the covenant to take the Hive.

"Oh my god," Fred spat out.

"What were those things," asked Grace.

"I think you need to tell them now Kelly," John said placing is hand on her shoulder.

"Ok John," Kelly said quietly.

Ten minutes later...
"How are we going to beat those creatures," asked Fred looking around the room.

"I don't know but we have to or we lose, John said staring down Fred. Spartans you've seen the enemy now, now lets show them us. And Spartans we can't lose."
