Fight for New Tatley (Chptr 1: Taken by Surprise)
1000 Hours (England Time), September 2, 2550 (Earth Calendar)/ Town Meeting Hall, New Tatley

"All in favor of the construction of the underground military warehousing facility?" the town mayor questioned the audience. "It will be labeled as "Z23", and will be created directly under this building."
The crowd murmured, the many soldiers that had taken place in the large room talked among each other, and they all agreed that it should be built. The assembly started getting louder, and the mayor pressed a button on the metal podium and an alarm buzzed throughout the room. Everyone silenced, and he then declared.

"Alright then, I guess we are all in agreement, Z23 must be built!" the mayor continued, "Especially with the Covenant out there, we have to be prepared."
Then he dismissed everyone from the meeting hall, and everyone exited the building wondering mostly when Z23 would be built by. But another thought roamed the minds, were the Covenant going to arrive at Earth? Is that why so many soldiers had been stationed throughout the world by the UNSC? Nobody could tell right now, but it would only be two years before they could be certain.

1202 Hours (England Time), October 1, 2552 (Earth Time)/New Tatley, David's Street Near Eastern Wall.

He had been assigned to patrol this area, from what he had heard the Covenant had already started attacking North America. Then more had landed and started attacking different parts of the world. The 23 year old Captain Tim Rienne stopped to think. He had only seen the Covenant on holograms at the UNSC station that was in New Tatley. If he saw one he would recognize it, but weren't those things supposed to have shields? Or at least some of them? He started walking again, and then he noticed that his patrol time had ended and headed over to the Military HQ building.
Right now he was walking along the edge of the overpass which stood right above the entrance to the front parking lot of the HQ. Then he came to the stairs that led off the concrete bridge, walked down them and came to the double doors of the gigantic military building in a minute or so. Inside was General Loggs, the leader of the UNSC Corporation in this area. The grey-haired General turned to Rienne.

"Hello Captain! I'm assuming that your shift has ended?" Rienne nodded, Loggs continued, "Good. We have had another sighting of several Covenant drop ships headed this way."

"When was the last sighting, sir?" replied the Captain.

"Yesterday, apparently they were heading from the east and were reported to be going very fast. I was informed that they should've been here today! But so far so good." the General finished, and then gestured Rienne to follow him to a wall lined with computers.
People were only using half of the computers that were installed into the wall, the rest were busily scrambling around the hallway. Some were even peering out the window onto the front parking lot; many marines were still on patrol. Rienne was still following Loggs to the window when one of the tech officers called the General.

"Sir, take a look at this! I don't know if the computer is acting up or if the data shown is correct, but its still strange." the tech officer said.

      "What is wrong?" Loggs responded.

"Well, it reads five large enemy dots on the satellite, now six, from the photos they are the drop ships--- The picture just cut out! I think they are here, sir!" the tech officer now looked pale and he pressed the alarm button.
The normal lighting was replaced with flashing red lights, people in the building started to panic and quicken in pace, and a loud blaring noise rang throughout the building and town. Rienne ran to the window along with many others, he saw something terrible.
Many drop ships were appearing over the horizon, and then a buzz could be heard. Soon the "Banshee's" (as they were called) came into view, the marines stationed near the eastern wall started firing at the alien aircrafts. One of the Banshee's "wings" were blown off, it lost control, and flew straight into one of the several military outposts that surrounded the town.
The outpost blew up, sending the metal roof outside of the town onto the rolling hills. Bodies flew from the explosion; the Captain grabbed a battle rifle and ran outside.

1220 Hours (England Time), October 1, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Military Outpost 4B, Eastern Wall Overlooking Protah Hills.

"Get down! Two Banshee's, on approach!" yelled Chief Triam. "Take one out at a time!"
He watched in approval as one Banshee dropped out of the sky, but the second got its wing taken off. Triam's expression quickly changed as it wobbled and then swerved right into Outpost 5B. Blood, bodies, and equipment were tossed from the blast. The metal roof was sent flying out to the Protah's along with several carcasses. He grimaced as the heat wave passed over him, the two outposts were very close to each other, the only thing that separated them was the city gate.
Triam then saw the drop ships approaching the town, they were now noticeable. They were Phantoms; Triam took out his binoculars to examine the Covenant drop ships better. The Phantom was carrying a mediocre amount of Wraiths, Ghosts, and Shadows. They were in trouble, along with the enemy vehicles, how many hostiles were in the ships?
Suddenly and unexpectedly, the Phantoms came to a halt, touched down and let their troops and supplies loose. From his view with the binoculars, some aliens exited the ship and were shot from snipers. Then the Wraiths became active and started firing upon the town. Blue plasma orbs fell from the sky onto the walls and buildings, turning them into rubble.
In seconds the Covenant were upon them, entering through the gate which had been destroyed by a plasma bomb, and shooting anyone in their sights.
Triam exited down through the hatch and down the stairs, only to come face to face with one of the Jackals. It shot at him first, the Chief tried to dodge it but the green plasma slammed into his shoulder. He let out a cry of anguish and shot a pistol at the creature.
Most of the rounds were absorbed by the shield, and the Chief knew it was over until a young man in combat armor came in through the door and shot the head of the Jackal.

"What's your name, son?" asked the dazed Chief.

"It's Captain Tim Rienne, but I really must be on my way back to the HQ. Follow me and we can get you some medical attention." ordered the Captain.

"Yes, sir!" said Triam, clutching his left shoulder, "It seems that we are under attack now, if I may say so."
The Captain didn't respond, just told the Chief to follow him and stay close. Blood from Triam's wound had spilled over his armor and hands, but it was nearly clotted. He needed medical attention and he wanted it quick.

1228 Hours (England Time), October 1, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Bottom Floor of Outpost 4B.

The Captain now had to escort a wounded Chief back to the Military HQ, but he was glad, mostly because he didn't want to face another Covenant soldier just yet. Rienne was only good with commanding a squad and using a sniper, and he didn't like having to fight up close. Before he had entered the outpost he had killed an Elite, a couple Grunts and Jackals, along with a Brute.
The Chief was following close behind; they were running from a firefight. They came down the road which ran down a slope under the concrete overpass. Then the road leveled out and it came to an intersection, at the opposite end of where they stood was the front parking lot.
The Covenant hadn't gotten that far yet, they were still coming four by four out of the holes in the wall. So the Chief and Rienne ran as fast as they could across the parking lot and into the building. When they made it inside, people still scrambled about under the flashing red lights. Several medics surrounded the Chief and took him away. Now Rienne had to get to Loggs, and ask him a favor.
Tim had to go up the stairs where he had last talked to Loggs, and surprisingly enough, he was there.

"What is it now, soldier?" grimly asked the General.

"I've come to ask a favor, sir." the General nodded him to go on; "I've come to ask for permission to set up an ambush."
The General pondered the question and nodded:

"Do whatever it takes to save this town, Captain, you'll be suited up with the newest weapons and team. They'll be waiting on the roof. Good luck." And with that Loggs turned and walked away.
Perfect, Rienne thought. He had the perfect plan; all he needed was enough people and the right equipment. Tim walked up the stairs; he was about to show why he was promoted to Captain in the first place.

Fight for New Tatley (Chptr 2: Alien Ambush)
0734 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Military HQ Rooftop, Overlooking Front Parking Lot.

"Everyone get into position; don't attack until I say. Snipers fire at will." Captain Tim Rienne looked up from the monocular; the sniper to his right loaded his gun and peered through the scope.
Then the sniper turned to Rienne, gave a thumbs up, and observed the landscape through the sniper scope once again. He had assembled the men that Loggs had given him all around the rooftops and a couple on the overpass. The firefight ahead had died down because all the human soldiers had retreated, and the Covenant was regrouping. Elites had already made it to the overpass not yet noticing the ambush waiting for them.

"Blue Five to Red One: I have a clear shot of the golden bastard, asking permission to blow him away." Blue-Five's gruff voice crackled over the COM link.

"Negative, Blue Five, you will give away our position and put this whole plan in danger. Keep your scope on that unlucky Elite and wait for my command." said Tim over the link, he was going to play it safe and wait for the rest of the Covenant to come out from under the overpass.
Three minutes had passed by, the enemy finally stopped; they were at a clear shooting point for every sniper on the buildings. The golden Elite spun around, all the Grunts, Jackals, and Brutes snapped to attention. He yelled something in alien tongue, and the Covenant roared with blood thirst.
The alien was about to spin around when Captain Rienne ordered everyone to fire. The head of the golden Elite exploded as several shots pierced through his shields, helmet, and skull. Several other random alien targets were taken down as well, and soon the Covenant had broken the box formation.
These guys were definitely screwed, thought the Captain as he shot a Brute through the stomach.

"Bridge Bomber One and Two: drop the frags." instructed the Captain over the COM, he watched the grenades fall and explode only to kill a group of veteran Elites and a handful of Jackals.
Then he ordered the ground squad to move in, and looked over the rooftop edge to see fifty marines come from the Military HQ. They raised their battle rifles and shot any alien that moved. For a moment the humans were winning, but as always their luck vanished. Banshee's screamed overhead, and they each shot a plasma cannon at the rooftop. Screams crackled over the COM channel, one of the nearby buildings was empty of snipers thanks to the Banshee's.

"Take out those Banshee's! All soldiers' direct fire to them." ordered Rienne, and soon the two alien aircrafts had opened up and the pilots had fallen out. "Nice shooting, people! I think those Banshee's are still operational, we'll have to see after the fight."
Then the fighting got tough, the enemy ground forces had brought in several Wraiths which had started firing upon the rooftops. Green team had been wiped out due to the fact that a giant plasma bomb had landed on top of the whole team. Since they couldn't take out the Wraiths by weapon fire they had to get the Bridge Bombing team to fire the rockets to take down the alien mortar tanks.
Suddenly an unseen tank faced the bridge and fired; the plasma bomb flew high and started to fall with increased velocity. Before the team on the bridge could disengage with all their equipment it exploded right on top of them sending bodies everywhere. A large hole had been blown into the overpass, and chunks of concrete had showered the road beneath.

"All teams disengage! Go inside the buildings and shoot from there!" ordered Captain Rienne when he saw the Wraiths turn towards his position.
He grabbed what was essential of his and ran to the stairs that led down into the building. Holding the M91A2 .55 cal sniper rifle and ammo box, he jogged down the stairs and was followed by the other people in his squad. Time had run out, but fortunately he was already at the bottom of the stairwell. There was a thunderous explosion which caused the building to shake and Rienne was forced to deal with a constant ringing in his ears.
Tim yelled as loud as he could to the other members of his team to exit the stairwell, the ringing in his ears hadn't gone away. He followed his squad into the next hallway where large windows lined the wall on the left. The remainder of the troops set up in front of separate windows, opened them and placed their snipers through the open windows.
The Captain couldn't hear much now, the ringing tone had gone away but only dull sounds of the weapons firing and explosions could be perceived.

"Blue team come in! I repeat Blue team come in! Did you manage to make it inside?" asked Rienne over the COM, he could just barely hear himself talk.

"This is Blue Two, we've taken hits, Blue Five and One are down! Only four members of this squad remain uninjured." reported Blue two, "We have a great sniping position, should we commence firing, sir?"

"Affirmative, Blue Two, are you currently in command?" asked Rienne, his hearing was slowly improving.

"Yes, sir, you are currently speaking to First Sergeant Easlee, the highest ranking officer was First Lieutenant Cosche but he was shot down on the roof." answered Easlee, "I'm going to have to attend the wounded, I'll keep you posted, sir. Easlee out."
The Captain cut the COM feed, he had been firing while listening and managed to take out a couple Grunts and an Elite. Somehow the Covenant had gotten larger in numbers, but were quickly being shot down by the snipers in the windows. Rienne then realized this would be going a lot quicker if the other two squads hadn't been eliminated. The UNSC ground troops were still fighting ferociously; the only thing that changed the ground force was that they decreased in numbers.

"Ground forces; take cover, incoming fragmentation grenades." Rienne had clicked the COM link on and given the order when four frag grenades fell from the windows.
The ground forces split up and hid behind parked cars, the grenades bounced off the ground once and landed between pockets of Covenant soldiers. The metallic M9 HE-DP grenades went off one by one, throwing Covenant in various directions without limbs or ligaments. Then the Wraiths came into view, aimed towards Tim and his squad and fired.

"Hit the deck!" Rienne yelled to the rest of his squad, only one of the soldiers was obliterated as the pulsating blue orb struck the window he was firing out of.
Captain Rienne was dazed, dust and dirt was blocking his view of everything else. When it settled, he saw the wall had been taken out and that three other people in his squad had been blown across the hall. There was only one survivor, and he lay under a pile of rubble and was coughing up blood.
Tim tried to call out to the soldier, but he couldn't hear himself talk. The explosion had deafened him momentarily, and he crawled desperately over to the marine. The soldier mouthed something which was unheard, the Captain tried to make out what he said but to no such luck. Rienne pushed the rubble off of the fallen soldier only to come face to face with a large hole seeping blood.
Tim lifted up the soldier and put the marines scratched arm around his shoulder. Together they walked slowly down the hallway, stepping over large pieces of concrete to get to the elevator. It seemed like eternity, and with every few seconds the marine groaned and choked up blood. They made it to the elevator, the Captain pressed a series of buttons and soon they arrived on the 2nd floor.

"Captain, what happened up there? Intel shows no movement on the roof!" Loggs said, "We thought you were gone!"

"With all due respect, sir, there's no time for that, this man needs medical attention; he's the onlysurvivor of my team." Rienne replied, "Two other teams were wiped out too! The only squad remaining is Blue team."
Loggs was about to open his mouth when the Captain heard a feed coming in through the COM channel. He put his hand over his ear to hear a little better.

"Captain! Come in, we are experiencing some major difficulties, Covenant have entered the building and been killing everyone inside! Right now I can hear them slaughtering the people on the floor below us, please help us Captain... I don't want to die... Shit here they come!" the message was ended abruptly by gunfire and yelling.

"General Loggs, I have just gotten contact with that last remaining team, they are in serious trouble from the sounds of it. May I go in to extract them before they come to serious harm?" asked Rienne.
Loggs thought for a second, and then a grim look came over his face.
"If I give you any more men, I'm hoping that this time they will actually come to some good?" asked Loggs, "Which building are they located at, anyhow?"

"I set them up on the roof of the bank; they are probably at the top floor. They need some medic's up there too, he reported that they have wounded and dead." responded Rienne dully.

"Then I shall give you two medics? With guns, yes? Also we need some normal UNSC bred soldiers, five of those, and your friend Chief Triam would like to come along too. That should be sufficient, come down to the conference room once you are ready." Loggs said, and then he turned around and disappeared behind the fray of tech officers scrambling about.
Rienne turned to the window, outside was hell. Two Phantoms had already touched down in the parking lot letting loose another wave of troops. More troops ran out from some garages and started fighting some more; it looked like B Company had been inserted into the mess. He had to get to the conference room so he could save the trapped squad before it was too late.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 3: Bank Withdrawal)
0755 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Military HQ 2nd Floor, Heading to Conference Room.

Captain Rienne walked with a hurried pace down the hall, many thoughts roamed around in his mind. Had they already been killed or still fighting for their live? Were the wounded already dead? What if what he was doing was too risky?
The pinging of the elevator interrupted his thinking pattern; he stepped onto the lift and pressed to go down to the first floor. Rienne was all alone on the elevator, the quiet humming and feeling of vertigo was all that accompanied him. So he tried to establish a connection with Blue team, he clicked the COM link on and said:

"Blue team, do you copy? I repeat Blue team, do you copy?" hopelessly said Rienne. At first all he could hear was static, but every few seconds Tim thought he heard a voice. Then the static broke and he could hear the First Sergeant's voice.

"...does anyone copy? This is First Sergeant Easlee; we are currently under attack on the top floor of the bank in Sector-15. Covenant have stormed the building and..." gunfire rattled in the background, Easlee continued, "We are unable to pull out, Covenant are blocking the path, need immediate assistance! I repea----"the transmission ended in a burst of static.
The elevator had come to a few seconds before the message had come to an end; he clicked off the COM as he stepped out. Downstairs of the facility was unlike the other floors, it was dimly lit and there weren't many people running around. Only a few marines talked to each other while technicians ran down the hall, scurrying to get to unknown places.
He came to the large double doors of the Conference room, pushed them open and was greeted by General Loggs who was behind a podium in the front of the room.

"Take a seat, Captain Rienne, your about to be briefed on what you have to do." Loggs told him, and then he called out to unseen figures in the shadows to come forward.
It was the members of his team; he only had a second to see what they looked like before the lights were shut off. A hologram appeared in the middle of the room, it showed the bank and the surrounding buildings and parking lot. The General begun his speech.

"Ok then, as you can see this is the Universal Trust Bank, there are two insertion points, here..." a red dot appeared on the rooftop of the bank, "...and here." another dot materialized but this time near the entrance,

"The rooftop insertion is a good way to help you fight with the trapped squad. However, the front entrance insertion is a good way to surprise the Covenant from behind, and then if you get to them it will be easier to fight your way out." said Loggs, Tim raised his hand.

"Why can't we just fly them back out with a Pelican?" asked the Captain.

"Well, you see, the Covenant are massing in numbers outside, they could easily take out a Pelican with a full load of people." Tim frowned with the answer and Loggs continued, "Secondly we have already gotten pick-up calls from different parts of the sector, and if you chose the rooftop point of entry the Pelican would be off trying to save some other people and be too busy to extract you."

"Then I'll guess I'll take the front entrance, sir." said the Captain.
Tim listened attentively for the rest of the briefing; it was mostly safety precautions and the parameters of the operation. Then Loggs clapped his hands and the lights flickered back on, Rienne's eyes adjusted almost instantly. The General introduced each of the members of his squad; each one individually stepped forward and stated his name and rank.

"First Medic, Tom Dabrowski, at your service."

"Second Medic, Marcus Stall, honored to work with you." five First Class Privates presented themselves, there was Paul Stern, J.R Reefs, Tony Angullo, Stan Conley, and Rico Stacks.
Then Chief Triam stepped out, he did not represent himself but instead showed his appreciation for Tim.

"Captain, I just wanted to say thank you for saving my ass, one of those bastards shot me. Each one of them Covies is gonna get a mouthful of lead!" enthusiastically said the Chief, Loggs then told the Captain and the rest to go into the Armory in the next room.
The Armory was stacked with Battle Rifles, grenades, Snipers, Pistols, Rocket Launchers, and Submachine Guns. These were just the weapons that were in the casings, the rest of the supplies were in the lockers that lined the back wall.

"Get suited up, people, you are free to leave when you are ready, and good luck." General Loggs said before he exited out of the room.
The marines silently got into the gear, grabbed a Battle Rifle each and a couple of grenades, and either they grabbed a SMG or Pistol as a secondary weapon. Each soldier checked that the COM channel they were using was working inside their helmets. When they were done they singled out of the room and into the hallway, then in a few seconds they had exited the building and were ready to kick some ass.

0816 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Universal Trust Bank, 8th floor in stairwell.

"Fire in the hole!" yelled Trevor Easlee as he pitched a grenade down the hallway. He plugged his ears as it exploded.
Blue blood sprayed past the doorway onto the bottom of the stairs, Trevor was tired, and five people of his squad were lying in the corner coughing on dried up blood. Some had passed out from loss of blood and the other four who weren't scratched were crouching with their backs against the wall.

"Sir, we're not gonna last much longer if this keeps up---"the Private Laurence was cut off by plasma streaking out of the doorway and hitting the back wall.
The First Sergeant merely nodded at the Privates comment, he already knew it was true and it was only a matter of time before they were killed. His COM link was partially damaged, he could still hear the transmissions over the channels though, but he couldn't communicate over the headset. The same went for the rest of the marines, either their COM equipment was destroyed or they didn't have them.

"Covering fire!" yelled another marine, he jumped into the doorway and shot at unseen enemies. He was knocked backwards with a barrage of plasma bolts.

"Son of a bitch! Pull Parkins back into the corner!" barked Easlee, two of the soldiers carried out the order.
What the hell caused him to do that? Thought Trevor, but his team was knocked back to only four unharmed troopers, including himself. They were stuck in the stairwell, the only thing they could do was fire blindly into the adjacent hallway and try and inflict damage on anything they could.
The Sergeant peeked around the corner, only blue and purple blood stained the hallway, no Covenant. He came up with a good defensive plan, and told his troops to hold back.
Easlee, in a crouching stance, entered the hallway with his Battle Rifle to the ready. There was one opening to the left which led into an office and another opening to the right which led to a maintenance room. Since he had three marines that could still fight, he waved one into each room with them leaning out of the doorway. The other one would be in the door by the stairwell, and Easlee could take up position behind a gap in the wall.
Staying on the defense would be harder, but in this formation they were actually able to fight.

0821 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Lobby of Universal Trust Bank.

"Alright, everyone get behind those pillars, I'll check around the room." ordered Rienne. "Wait for my command."
He walked around the room; bodies lay scattered around the floor, blood seeping from the many plasma scores. Nothing moved in the lobby or the vaults, so he called his team forward.

"They are somewhere on the top floor, and to get up there the fastest is going by elevator." said the Captain.

"Isn't that sort of dangerous, sir? I mean, they could cut the elevator cords and kill us all!" doubtfully said the Medic, Marcus.

"It would be, if the Covenant knew we were here." he smirked, and then told his team to file into the elevator.
All nine of the soldiers got in, Triam who was the closest, pressed the button to go to the ninth floor. They waited at least ten seconds when the elevator came to a lurching halt; all of the soldiers either fell to the floor or braced themselves against the wall.

"Damnit, we're just going to have to take the long way up. Looks like were at the seventh floor, two more to go." said Rienne.
The elevator doors were only half open, and it made it even more difficult to pry them open because the elevator was on a slant. The Captain managed to muster up enough strength though and forced open the metal doors. Three Jackals lingered about at the end of the hall.

"Open fire, marines!" barked the Captain as he went prone and shot at the Jackals; they seemed to wilt as the heads were shot off each one.
Ten more Covenant swarmed the end of the foyer, a mix of Elites and Grunts. Weapons fire came from both sides, but luckily the humans first. Two Elites dropped down, each with a gaping hole in their abdomen.
The Captain primed a grenade while he was on the ground, and threw it into the fray of aliens. It exploded two seconds after, sending Covenant flying in all directions causing them to smack into the walls. The rescue squad moved forward slowly, they came to the end of the hallway where it turned and glanced down the next one. It was clear, so they all moved down but this time at a quicker pace.
Then they heard rustling, looked to the source of the sound and saw a Grunt hiding behind a plant without a gun. Two shots rang out from Stan Conley's gun, immediately created two holes in the alien's skull and killed it. They moved forward, came to the fire emergency stairs and started the long climb to the ninth floor.
Minutes passed, they had finally made it to the top floor without many firefights with the Covenant. Wheezing, they stepped into the next hallway; this one went straight forward then turned. Two Elites were at the intersection of the hallway, but exploded due to bullets that appeared from the other hallway. Rienne and his team ran forward, turned were greeted by the survivors of Blue team.

"Secure the hallway! Make sure no one enters this hallway." ordered the Captain; two of his men ran to guard the stairwell.
All they had to do know was fix up the wounded and fight their way back out of the building.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 4: Survivors)
0822 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ 9th Floor of Universal Trust Bank.

J.R and Tony were the ones to guard the door to the stairs coming up, and disappeared from view as they rounded the corner. Rienne turned towards the First Sergeant.

"Thank god you've arrived, we were trapped! I don't know how long the wounded would've lasted, they need immediate help. Did you bring any medical personnel?" asked the panicky First Sergeant, the Captain nodded.
Dabrowski and Stern walked down the remainder of the hallway and into the stairwell leading to the roof. The Captain continued his conversation with Easlee.

"How long have you been fighting for, anyhow?" asked Rienne. The Sergeant was about to say something until Tim held up his hand, "Hold on I'm getting a transmission."

"This is Green Seven; I am with Green Four, Five, and Nine. We are currently in the Food Produce Inc. store, somewhere along the 12th floor. Does anyone read me?" asked a gloomy voice over the COM. Rienne clicked his COM unit on and responded to the call.

"Green Seven, this is Captain Rienne, I read you loud and clear. I thought your team was wiped out!" exclaimed Tim, "Do you need assistance?"

"This is Corporal Jakson, good to hear from you Captain, we've been tryin' to reach you ever since the plasma hit the roof, technical difficulties maybe? Anyways it landed right on top of the team killin' everybody under it, luckily me and the other three weren't under it and were just thrown from the blast. We managed to get into the buildin' and haven't encountered any hostile forces just yet." the gruff voice paused momentarily to talk to one of his comrades. "We could do with some help, sir, since we are suffering from plasma burnin'.

"Alright, we'll head over to your position, stay where you are." ordered Rienne, he had another personal mission. "Dabrowski, are the wounded ready for walking?"

"Almost, sir, I filled 'em up with biofoam and gave 'em some energy boosting and adrenaline pills. So in other words, sir, they'll be ready to fight as soon as the pills affect 'em." said Dabrowski. "We going back to the HQ?"

"Afraid not, boys, we just got contact from the survivors of Green team. We're heading back again." said Rienne, "Get your stuff ready, we'll be leaving in two minutes."

The Corporal acknowledged the command, told the three PFC's that they had to stay in the room with all the computers. He wasn't sure where he was, but he was only concerned with getting back to the HQ. Covenant stormed the building already, but hadn't found the group of Green team survivors.

"Alright, if they find us, we gonna give 'em hell before we die. I know your thinkin' why I'm saying that we gonna die? We'll, I'm just tellin' you the truth! It's a whole shitload of 'em verses a few guys who got burns on their face, who can just barely hold a gun. That's why we gotta stay here and not fight. So we gonna wait while some soldiers come and save our asses, don't complain, 'cuz I don't wanna hear it." said the Corporal, the PFC's exchanged baffled expressions.
The Privates remained quiet, sat down in some chairs and talked among themselves as the Corporal paced around the room. He was worried, the pattering of the Covenant had gotten louder and he could hear the aliens talking in their own tongue. Corporal Jakson strained his ears to listen, they seemed closer, but he turned his attention away when a PFC called his name.

"Corporal? This portable motion tracker shows movement all over the place. It's hard to read this thing, I've had troubles in the ----" the Private stopped mid-sentence when Jakson snatched the device out of his hand.
Flashing red dots filled up the radar screen, only small segments weren't covered. The Corporal looked up, panic-stricken, and darted towards the metal door. It opened quickly as he looked down the hallway to his left. Down at the end of the hall were many approaching Jackals, a couple of Grunts followed them and they were all led by an Elite. Quickly he turned around, his face was pale.

"Get down! Hide under or behind anythin' you can, the Covenant is approachin'!" cried the Corporal, "We sure as hell ain't fightin'."
The PFC's all stood up simultaneously, knocking their chairs to the floor and scrambled for a hiding spot. He flicked off the lights and thought of a hiding place. The Covenant were advancing on their position, maybe, just maybe they would be able to hide from the aliens long enough to be rescued. Thinking of this Jakson hid under a desk that had a closed end and a chair blocking it. From his position though he could see everything that entered the room and where the rest of the marines were hiding.
One hid under the adjoining desk beside his, another under a large plant behind a cabinet, and the other hid in the small storage compartment. A few moments had passed when he saw the Covies enter the room; they were smaller in numbers mostly because the others were checking the other rooms. Only a few Jackals and Grunts searched the room, it seemed relatively safe until an Elite walked in through the door.
It walked out of view, and then it walked back towards the desk Jakson was hiding under. The Elite stopped for a moment, then it stooped under the desk that the other marine was hiding under and pulled him out by the head. The PFC tried to struggle out of the aliens grasp, and then tried to kick it. When the Elite laughed and started twisting the PFC's arm, he screamed. There was a snap, and the marine was dropped to the ground in pain.
The soldier backed up against another desk right into Jakson's view. Then the marine was pulled up again by unseen hands, and he started to scream again. There was another snap that ended the screaming of the soldier, then there was a disturbing ripping noise and blood surrounded the floor around the Corporal. He almost vomited as the Elite left the room along with the other aliens.
Not only blood accompanied the floor beside Jakson's head, but the actual head of the marine, complete with the spinal cord that was attached to the skull.

0833 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/9th Floor of Universal Trust Bank, Stairwell Leading to Roof.

"Everyone's ready to go know, sir." said Paul the Medic, "The wounded can only carry pistols though."
Rienne only nodded as he paced back and forth by the row of the wounded soldiers. There were eight of them, plus the four other soldiers of Blue team. Then there was his team, seven more marines to add to the bundle. He activated his COM link again to make contact with the Green team survivors.

"Green team, are you there?" asked Rienne, no answer. "We better get going, right now. Everyone good to go?"
There were mixed half-assed efforts to say "yes" as he heard J.R scream from the other stairwell. Gunfire echoed from the hallway as Rienne rounded the corner. Several Elites stood over the massacred bodies of J.R and Tony, blood seeping into the carpet. They spotted Rienne and walked slowly towards him. He was frozen, couldn't move one muscle, then adrenaline pumped into his blood stream and he booted it down to the marines that were in the stairwell.
He yelled at them to get up the stairs, they didn't hesitate. The Captain turned around with SMG's raised, still running, down the corridor. He waited for the Elites to turn the corner and fired, the bullets managed to take down one but the other six were unscratched. Screw it, he thought and he ran up the stairs. The Covenant were still walking behind him.
Light entered his vision as he stepped onto the roof; the marines had already crossed onto the Military HQ roof. There were wooden planks that had connected the two buildings together, poorly done, but it helped. He ignored the wood though, and jumped across the one meter gap at full speed.
Adrenaline still flowed through his body as he continued to yell at the other marines to get across onto the other roof. There were no planks though, so Rienne had to grab the boards and place them onto the gap between the HQ and the Food Produce store. Slowly the other troopers crossed the gap.
The Elites had already gotten on top of the roof and started firing at the marines. Several of the wounded had fallen off the roof due to a plasma shot square in the chest. When all had gotten across Rienne kicked the wood off the roof. They got to the part of the roof where it opened up to declining stairs that led into the building and all marched down them. A sign on the wall as soon as they entered a long hall read "12th" floor.
The hallway branched off to the left and right ahead, and Rienne told half of the troops to go to the left and the others to follow him to the right. They followed his command, and soon he was sprinting down the foyer, the soldiers split up into different rooms to verify that the survivors weren't there. Finally, Tim came to a room along with three other soldiers, but it was hard to see because the lights weren't on.
So Rienne changed that, flicked on the lights, and stared in disbelief as he saw a head lying in the middle of the room between some desks. Blood covered everything around the human head and spine. Then the Captain heard a voice, it sounded like the voice he heard on the COM channel, a man came out from under a desk beside the severed head. Two other marines followed his actions.

"Captain, thank god it's you! We're in a bad way; look at what they did to that soldier! We had to hide, just sit there and watch one of our men die!" the Corporal sounded hysterical.

"You're safe now, remember you're with us. We better get moving though, Covenant are on the way." replied the Captain calmly. He was about to say something else when gunfire echoed down the hallway.
The Covenant was here, and Rienne and his squad were going to take them out.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 5: Arriving, Departing)
0841 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ 12th Floor of Food Produce Inc, Import/Export Data Recording Room.

"Follow me, soldiers!" ordered Rienne, and as soon as he stepped through the door he saw a battle raging in the long hallway.
The marines were fighting out of the different rooms they had split up in, and taking damage as they shot at the oncoming Elites. The hallways were the shape of a "T", and the aliens were coming through the single hallway which branched off. Rienne took out the SMG's that he had picked up in the armory, and fired at anything that came out into the stretch of hallway.
One doomed maroon armored Elite stepped out into his view and was quickly impaled with a barrage of bullets. Two more of the huge 8' 6'' aliens took the fallen Elites place, and they assaulted some of the wounded marines who were grouped together by the elevator. Then Chief Triam jumped out of the room he was in into the hallway where the firefight was occurring. He stood up and brushed himself off.

"Sorry, sir, we were just searching for some of them Covies in that room there. We're glad to join the party!" he yelled with intensity as he fired his weapon into the alien fray.
A plasma grenade came into sight and harmlessly latched itself to a plant down the hallway, it exploded sending dirt everywhere. A lone marine was standing where all the hallways met and was firing at unseen enemies as Rienne approached. A salvo of purple needles pierced the soldier's skin around the heart, causing blood to gush out several feet, and then promptly exploded which ripped the ill-fated marine in half. The blood from the soldier had spurted all over the surrounding walls, which were now dripping with it.
Rienne and the other three soldiers that followed him, not including Triam, approached the intersection of hallways. They turned to the single hallway where the aliens had been coming in. Only this time several Jackals were there, shields raised, it was almost impossible to shoot through. So the Captain tried anyways, and managed to shoot the hand of a Jackal. They tightened up the formation as the trembling alien was shot to pieces by Rienne and the other marines.
Tim primed a grenade, waited three seconds, and tossed it right beside the foot of on of the Jackals. It exploded, sending the aliens to hit the wall hard. Debris crumbled from the charred roof and walls, falling on the alien corpses.

"Come on, sir, this way!" yelled Triam, who was already by the elevator along with the other wounded.
First Sergeant Easlee had already pressed the button to call the one of three elevators to the 12th floor. Triam followed suit as one of the wounded soldiers managed to lift a badly scorched arm and call a separate one. The elevator door beside Easlee opened first, then the second and third followed seconds after. Rienne ordered everyone to split up into each elevator, at least 5 people were in each one.

"Everyone send the lifts to the first floor! We're going back to the HQ." the Captain barked, then shot at an Elite as it rounded the corner.
Rienne stepped into the elevator, pressed the buttons necessary to go down to the first level. His Battle Rifle let loose a countless amount of bullets as he shot down the hallway at a group of approaching Covenant until the elevator door closed. The Captain let out a sigh, and then turned to a wounded soldier which was in the lift as well.

"Dabrowski, how is this man doing?" he asked, and the medic stepped out from behind Rico and Paul, the PFC's that were issued into his squad.
The injured soldier was wheezing, and his skin was pale, the medic handed him some pills.

"These should help you until we get back to the HQ," Tom added, "He should be doing fine now, Captain."
Rienne nodded and looked at the floor indicator, it read the seventh.

0847 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/8th Floor of Food Produce Inc, elevator heading to 1st floor.

The silence of the elevator only increased the mood of fear and anxiety. These elevators were going slow, thought Chief Triam; the store must not have been supplied with the newer ones. Stan was the only one in his squad that was in the elevator with him, along with some wounded soldiers. There was a thud that came from the roof of the elevator, everyone looked up in panic. Then a plasma bolt ripped through the titanium and hit Stan in the arm, he yelled in shock.

"Fire!" yelled the Chief; bullet holes became bigger as the marines shot at the roof.
There was another thump, and the alien's body could be seen by the holes, it was an Elite. Then there was a hissing noise, it was familiar, but Triam couldn't quite figure out what it was. He looked through one of the large holes in the roof and saw a pulsating blue orb attach itself to the elevator cable. The Chief gulped, and not wanting to panic the marines, he kept quiet knowing he was going to die and soon.

"What is it, sir?" asked Stan who was clutching his right arm, his eyes widened. "It's a plasma grenade, isn't---"
The grenade exploded, melting half of the cords, but now the elevator was on a slant, the Chief was praying silently. The lift was motionless, only creaking with the weight of five marines. Then it snapped, the Chief ended up screaming as the walls scraped against the elevator sides, soon ripping them right off. They were falling at an extremely fast pace, he looked at the faces of the other soldiers, their faces stricken with terror.
The floor indicator was acting up, but they were going much faster then before. A quicker way to get down, thought the Chief before the elevator hit the ground and the roof came down onto the marines, killing them all.

0847 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/2nd Floor of Food Produce Inc, elevator approaching the 1st floor.

A blood chilling screech of metal echoed through the large shaft. Rienne listened intently; it seemed to get louder then quieter and was followed by the sound of ripping metal. He let out a cry of anger; Rienne knew that several of his men had died. The elevator door opened, they were at the first floor. He stepped out and ran over to the elevator door besides the one he took.
The metal five-inch doors had been blown across the room; they were distorted and lay on the parking lot outside. Rienne could see the elevator had collapsed on them; blood had splattered all around the outside of the crash. Arms and legs stuck out from under the collapsed elevator, it was a disgusting sight, and Rienne averted his eyes. The other part of his team came out from the other elevator.

"With all due respect, sir, what the hell happened here? We just lost a quarter of the team!" exclaimed the First Sergeant, Easlee.

"Don't ask me what happened, I wasn't there." concluded the Captain, "We don't have time to grieve for them, now, lets get to the HQ!"
They ran through the doors, only to be greeted by more fighting, the Covenant were still fighting with B Company. Rienne ordered the marines under his command to run for the HQ, they did so. Even the wounded ran fast, he waited to make sure he was behind everyone. Soon they crossed the battlefield which was the parking lot, and soon entered through the doors of the Military Headquarters.
Panting, the marines continued their ways upstairs, the Captain followed. When they got up onto the second floor they were greeted by Loggs. He looked happy.

"You managed to save this many?" he asked, "I thought you said their were only several survivors and a couple wounded!"

"We had more than this, but we lost some in the Food Produce store." said Rienne grimly, "These men need medical attention, take them for now."

"Will do, Captain, but right now I need you on a more important mission." the General said, Rienne nodded, "We need you to go and help fight outside, just for now."

"That's it, sir?" asked Rienne, "You don't want me to do anything else?"

"No, not at the moment, but I will contact you when I need you to do something more important." said Loggs, then he sent Rienne off.
The Captain walked down the stairs, he needed rest, but was not given any. So he hefted around his Battle Rifle and joined the struggle outside. Immediately he was greeted with an explosion, then plasma sizzled past his head. He ran and ducked behind a car which was on its side, soon three more soldiers joined him.

"Which company are you in?" yelled one of the marines, "I bet you with "B", you're not even scratched!"

"I'm not in any company, I was just sent to help you guys out!" Rienne yelled back over an explosion. They merely nodded and ran from out behind the car and shot down several unsuspecting Grunts.
Rienne peeked up over the car; another Phantom was unloading another wave of troops. He primed a grenade and tossed it near a pack of Elites, it exploded, only relieving the aliens of their shields. Then he lifted up his rifle and shot at the unprotected Elites, each one dropped as a bullet blew threw their helmets and exploded their brains.

"Covering fire! Go, go, go marines!" yelled a voice from behind him. Rienne turned around and saw a noncom standing on top of a car yelling orders.
At least ten marines darted from behind some fallen cars and engaged the enemy. When Rienne turned around an Elite towered over him which caused Rienne to yell in surprise and try and run. The alien grabbed his leg with his powerful hands and pulled him back, then raised a plasma rifle at the Captain's head. Was this truly the end of Captain Tim Rienne? No, it wasn't, the shield of the enemy shimmered as bullets ravaged it. Then the shield system overloaded and bullets managed to penetrate the hand of the Elite.
Rienne saw his chance to strike back.
Pulling his SMG's out from the holsters he shot the Elite to oblivion, it roared in pain and then collapsed onto Rienne. The thick blood of the alien stained Rienne's clothes as it oozed out of the armor. All the Captain could do was cry for help as the weight of the carcass impeded him from taking large breaths.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 6: Airfield Arrival)
0851 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Parking Lot Outside of Military Headquarters, New Tatley Sector 13.

Right when Rienne thought he was going to pass out from the weight a soldier rushed to his aid. Without question the marine struggled to lift off the dead alien carcass, Rienne resumed his crouching position along with his rescuer.

"Thanks for the help, kid." said the Captain and the soldier nodded.

"No problem, sir! Anything to help a superior, just stay out of trouble." said the marine with a chuckle, then he left the cover of the car and went out into the battle.
Rienne poked his head above the car and eventually decided it was safe to go out. First he was in a crouch, then he was walking, then he broke out into a run to get to where the "fight" was. Only Jackals and Grunts remained on the ground; "B" company and the survivors of "A" were mopping up the last of them. No other Phantoms were in sight to drop off another wave of troops.
The warning buzzer indicated that a transmission was trying to get through to him and him only. He clicked the COM link on and waited for the consultation.

"Captain? I have something that you can help with; it's mostly about the ODST airfield located by the coast of England. We have just received communication from the General Anderson that the Covenant are sweeping to their position and they need assistance ASAP." said the familiar voice of Loggs, "I have volunteered you and another soldier to bring a trailer full of weapons, ammo, and medical supplies. Get to the vehicle garages which are under the David's street overpass on the double, soldier."

"Yes, sir, will there be anyone to assist me on what to do?" asked Rienne over the COM.

"Of course, Captain, the man helping you will be in vehicle locker two on the right side of the overpass. He will also be accompanying you on your trip to the airfield." said the General, "Another thing, I will be leaving the HQ for a more personal reason, assuming my position will be Sergeant Lubz, he is the highest ranking officer in the building at the moment, so he will be in charge. Loggs over and out."
Rienne clicked off the COM link and continued to walk forward over and through the dead bodies of marines and aliens alike. The last shot rang out from a soldier as he finished off a limping Jackal who was without a shield. A cheer broke out from the surviving soldiers, but soon their satisfaction died out and they started attending wounded and pulling the dead off the parking lot.
When the Captain got to the intersection he started to run and in a few seconds he made it to the vehicle garages. He stopped, panting, and he paid attention to the numbers placed above the garages. When he stopped at the number two, an Elite jumped down through the hole from the overpass. Its shields took the force of the impact and it stood up slowly, facing Rienne.
The surprised Captain backed up to the wall, raised his Battle Rifle and fired several well placed shots to the head. This only made the shields shimmer, and Rienne froze in horror. Then the Elite raised it's plasma rifle and aimed it at Rienne, it fired twice but the Captain had managed to run from the line of fire. He spun around and shot the alien several more times, and soon the shields overloaded and failed to work.
But the alien was not finished.
The round of Rienne's BR had depleted and he was busy reloading as the Elite raised his weapon once more. Rienne, now knowing he was going to be shot, dropped to the ground. Then the loud rumble of weapons fire replaced what should've been the hiss of plasma fire. He had closed his eyes but opened them when everything went silent. A smoking alien corpse lay in front of the Captain and to the left of it was a man dressed in normal marine uniform, wielding the two SMG's that had killed the alien.

"You okay, sir? That was a close one." said the marine, "We better get a move on, these supplies aren't gonna deliver themselves you know."
Rienne stood up, nodded, brushed himself off and walked into the now-opened garage. Inside was a Warthog, attached at the rear of the 'Hog was a trailer complete with the many weapons and other supplies needed at the airfield.

"Would you mind driving, sir? My hands ain't doing so well since the battle started, I got shot as soon as they hit the town." said the marine, "By the way, I'm Corporal Williams and I'll be assisting you today."
Rienne greeted Williams and climbed into the driver's seat of the Warthog, he hadn't driven one of these for a very long time. The Captain still remembered how to drive, but it would take him a few minutes to get used to the vehicle. The Corporal hopped into the passenger's seat and gave Rienne the thumbs up.

"Just remember, though, we have a trailer with us, so don't do anything too crazy. Just a reminder, sir." said the Corporal.
Rienne gave a thumbs up back to the Corporal and was about to gun it when several Elites popped out in front of the open garage. The Captain didn't hesitate to put the pedal to the metal; blue blood showered the walls and 'Hog as the 3 ton vehicle plowed over them. The Corporal fired at the bodies as they came onto the street causing more gore to cover the roads.
They were driving up the hill as a Phantom appeared from behind the damaged wall up ahead. It flew past where the LRV to the parking lot of the HQ, it seemed like the marines were up for another fight. The 'Hog continued to zip down the road, and soon it came to the badly damaged gate.
The massive entrance was leaning to one side; the top was badly scorched and crumbling. Then Rienne saw another way of getting out of the city, to the right of the gate was a collapsed watchtower which sat on a mountain of rubble. He approached the debris with the Warthog and soon rode over it, slow enough so that the trailer did not bounce around enough to damage it.
In a few seconds they had made it through the hole in the thick concrete wall and joined up with the road leading to the ODST airfield.

Eighth Cycle, 34 units (Covenant Battle Calendar)/Aboard Trailer of Moving Warthog, en route to human airfield.

The Grunt known as Rallit had made it into the human portable compartment, and he was stuck behind some of their primitive weapons and grenades. The gods would surely be proud of his work, but in the midst of his thinking the human compartment hit a bump and caught air, flinging Rallit into a wall.
As soon as we stop we contact the Thunderstrike, thought the Grunt as he tried to stand up, then we give orders to attack airfield and send in a big assault force on the human city. These were his previous instructions from the Field Master Pol 'Ralamee and by god he was going to carry them out.
He had made it into the trailer by getting into the human vehicle storage room by vent. Then he had made sure that no one was there and boarded into the transportable compartment. There he had waited for at least 7 units until they had started moving. Now all he had to do was wait until they stopped, give orders to 'Ralamee, and wait for all the humans to die and get shipped off to the Thunderstrike. Maybe he would be congratulated by the Prophet of Truth! How an honor that would be, he was day-dreaming again, something that this Grunt was fallible for.
Rallit was still confident though and knew his plan was flawless.

0901 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Drivers seat of Warthog, parked at ODST airfield.

"Alright then! That was an uneventful ride, anyways I'm going to get the General and tell him we made it with the supplies." said Williams and started to walk away, Rienne leaned against the Warthog.
In a few minutes Williams and a medium sized man with grey hair emerged from the nearest building. As they walked towards the Warthog he called over several of his Helljumpers and soon five other people were following.

"Good day, Captain! I am General Anderson, but first let's open the trailer!" said the General; he beckoned two of his marines to open the door.
They followed the order, and soon the door had been lifted and to everyone's surprise a Grunt lay behind the stash of weapons. It jumped in shock, and tried to grab one of the knives and throw it at a marine. Unfortunately the Grunts hand could not properly hold a knife, and dropped it on its foot.
It yelled in pain, and two of the marines dragged it out.

"Send this one to the cells along with the other three, he's going to be doing some hard labor." ordered Anderson with a smirk, the two soldiers that had opened the compartment took the squirming Grunt away. "Good work, Captain Rienne, now all we need is for you and my ---."
The General was interrupted by the sudden screech of Banshees, Rienne wheeled around in horror two see at least ten or twenty of the alien aircrafts coming to their position. Following behind them was the Covenant Phantoms, and at least six or seven of those could be seen. "Oh no..." said the General, "Everyone get ready, hit the alarm, this is gonna be one helluva day!"
Then he jumped into the Warthog and booted it down the tarmac, he could be seen swerving behind a building and probably into the armory for unloading.

"What the hell are we waiting for? Let's get to work people; I'm guessing we have five minutes until they land." said the Captain, "Williams, your with me."
They stayed in their position until more of the ODST's joined up with them, now at least forty or so blood lusting marines were with the Captain, and they were gonna win this fight.

"Captain Rienne, this is Sergeant Lubz, we read massive movement to your position. We have contacted the surrounding military encampments and they are on the way to help the city and airfield. Good luck, sir." Rienne clicked the COM channel on to receive the message, then clicked it off when it was done.
This was going to be one helluva day, as said by General Anderson.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 7: Covenant Crusade)
Date: 9 December 2003, 4:43 AM

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 7: Covenant Crusade)
0914 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/ Tarmac of ODST Airfield, awaiting Covenant attack.

"Covenant on approach! ETA four minutes! Lock and load, get into your positions, move your asses!" yelled the voice of General Anderson over the loudspeakers, an alarm blared in the background.
Rienne continued to stare at the massive Covenant army coming to their position, behind him the troopers scrambled back and forth over the runways. Williams stood speechless behind him; he hadn't really fought with the Covenant head on.

"Get those goddamn .85 cal chain guns ready! We need all them operational or we won't stand much of a chance, marines!" yelled a Lieutenant who was stuck in the fray of hurrying soldiers.
The chain guns were stuck wherever there was an open patch of grass, and at least ten of them could be seen where Rienne was standing. Several marines were assigned to each one and grabbed boxes of the ammunition from under the large stationary weapons. Soon every chain gun was loaded and held at least three soldiers behind each one.

"Marines, listen up!" barked the Lieutenant who was now in sight for everyone who was behind a gun emplacement, "This isn't the first time we've had to fight, so we're gonna show those Covenant shits how its done!"
All fifty marines cheered in approval, but the Lieutenant held up a hand for silence.

"Let me finish, if we win this fight which I'm sure we will," all the ODST's cheered again, "then we are gonna have to find some other way so they don't attack us again! At this time I do not know how, but one way or another, I'm sure we're gonna find a way."
Everyone was silent; no cheers resonated from the marines.

"Give 'em hell marines! Remember who you are... ODST's!" the Lieutenant yelled and ran behind a lone gun emplacement.
The Captain, who had been standing beside the Lieutenant along with the Corporal, turned around to face the incoming horde of Covenant.

"Better take a look at this, sir." Williams handed Rienne a pair of binoculars.
He saw that the Phantoms had touched down; unloading wave after wave of Covenant troops while the Banshees continued forward. Rienne saw Brutes, Jackals, Grunts, and the Elites being unleashed onto the field and they grouped up into formation. The formation was that of a box with ten or fifteen in each row, and Rienne could tell there was about four or five rows. There were five box formations, each led by a golden-clad Elite with a plasma sword in one hand and a Needler in the other.
While Rienne was examining the ground forces, Banshees closed in on the airfield. When he lowered the binoculars he could see the twenty alien aircrafts extremely close to the airfield. "Fire!" yelled the Lieutenant; every single gun emplacement started firing simultaneously.
Unfortunately the Banshee's were too far and the rattling of the chain guns made it impossible to aim at a far distance. But soon the aircrafts descended upon the airfield; letting loose the fuel rod cannons mounted to the alien aircrafts. They hit randomly, only to toss a single marine across the three tarmacs and down into a ditch.
One, then two Banshees exploded in mid-air and fell at increasing speed towards the ground. They soon became a mound of crushed purple metal, purple blood oozed from the wreckage and into the grass.

"Don't disperse just yet, marines!" yelled the Lieutenant over the racket of the weapon fire.
The Covenant ground forces were gaining precious ground, and the Banshees were coming back for another attack run. All the chain guns swiveled around to meet the aircrafts and continued firing. Three more Banshees were felled, but not before they managed to get some shots in on the marines. At least four or five ODST troopers were obliterated from the blue plasma shots, several others were merely burned.
This left two of the gun emplacements unmanned and Rienne decided to make himself useful. He ran to the nearest one, while dodging the barrage of plasma from the Banshees, and cocked it. The Banshees turned around and once again assaulted the marines, only one soldier was killed from a single plasma blast. Bullets flew from the barrel of the chain gun Rienne was operating; managing to hit several Banshees and causing them to trail smoke. Several other marines finished off what Rienne hadn't accomplished; destroying the Banshees.
At least ten undamaged Banshees remained and were still taking heavy fire from the blood longing soldiers.

"Here come the ground forces, people! Lets show 'em how it's done!" barked the Lieutenant and all the marines, including Rienne, pivoted until they faced the approaching Covenant.
They seemed much larger now that they were closer, mostly because the formations consisted of mostly Elites, but the aliens went from biggest to smallest in the arrangement. The alarm continued to blare in the background, while the Covenant ground forces were about to be inserted into the fight.
The Banshees had retreated to where the Phantoms had touched down, but now the Covenant troops were upon them, and already the marines had shifted their fire to them.
The numbers of Covenant decreased slowly as the front row of the aliens were killed of the first box formation. Unfortunately a golden Elite managed to toss a plasma grenade into the assortment of chain guns; it exploded, trashing several of the gun emplacements.

"Time to scatter, marines! They're too close to shoot at, stay in groups of at least five just to stay safe!" yelled the Lieutenant as he ditched the chain gun and ran to get cover along with three other marines.
Williams and three others followed him as he ran to take cover behind a building. When they stopped, the marines introduced themselves.

"Sir! Corporal Dynuld reporting for duty, sir!" the Corporal snapped a salute, Rienne returned it.

"Private Dave Trollop, sir." The private didn't salute, then Rienne turned to the last ODST, it was a women.

"Master Sergeant Alice Delano, but you can call me "Rough"." said the Sergeant, Rienne was pleased to have a girl in his squad.

"Okay, "Rough", I'm gonna need you to stay with me, you guys stay here and provide cover." ordered Rienne, an explosion rumbled behind them.
The Captain needed a vantage point; he looked around and saw stairs that led up to the roof. "Come on," he said to Alice, and they both made their way up to the top. In seconds they had reached it, and Rienne peered over the rooftop, the Covenant had arrived.

"This is good, very good, hand me a pistol, or sniper or something with a zoom." said Rienne to Rough, she nodded and slid the sniper which was slung around her shoulder off.
She gave it to Rienne, "Thanks," he said and clicked the safety off. He got the feel for it, checked through the scope and let off the first bullet into a golden-clad Elite. The shot pierced its shields, its helmet, and then its skull; sending chunks of alien skin everywhere. But unlike what happened in New Tatley, the Covenant did not disband.
So he fired a few more shots into some more unsuspecting soldiers, but they just kept on marching until finally they had reached the tarmac. This is when the Covenant split up and started running down the runway engaging any soldier they saw.

"Trollop!" yelled the familiar voice of Williams, "He's down, retreat to the roof!"
Soon the two Corporals could be seen, panting. They tried to mouth that Trollop was down, but couldn't manage to make words. Blood was splattered all over Dynuld's uniform. They both sat down in a state of shock, and that's when an Elite decided to walk up the stairs accompanied by two Jackals. Rienne spun around with the sniper and fired, the recoil nearly knocked him off his feet. Fortunately the bullet managed to hit the Elite in the stomach, with help from the armor piercing rounds it knocked the alien backwards off of the stairs to the ground below.
The Jackals put the shields up against each other so it was practically impossible to get a good shot at the aliens. So instead of struggling to actually get a good shot he tossed a grenade beside the doomed Covenant; it exploded sending the two Jackals onto the second tarmac.

"Williams, I'd like you to stay here with Dynuld, I'm sure Rough is alright to come with me. Keep me posted." ordered Rienne, the Corporal nodded.
They made their way down the stairs, only to be encountered by another pair of Jackals. Rough got to her feet and fired until the aliens were twitching in a bloody pulp.

"We're pinned down, this is Lieutenant Kegs reporting somewhere behind the main hangar, we could do with some help people." this message came in over the ODST frequency on the COM, and Rienne quickly acknowledged the transmission.
He told Rough to follow him, and as they made their way past the buildings hell raged before their eyes. Fires had broken out everywhere, on buildings, the gun emplacements, even parts of the tarmac. Troopers were running around everywhere, either trying to run away from a Covenant or aid someone in a fight.
They reached the main hangar, entered it and saw the Lieutenant hiding behind an F-95 Space Maneuverable Fight Jet along with two other marines. Another body lay sprawled somewhere else in the hangar, quite devoid of life and surrounded by blood. Rienne could see what the problem was; several Elites were in the room which looked over the whole hangar were firing at the Lieutenant and the other marines.

"Good to see you, Captain," the Lieutenant yelled to him, "Captain, get behind something, covering fire!"
Rienne ran behind a stack of wooden boxes, and then he took out the sniper he had slung around his shoulder and poked it through a hole in the boxes. He aimed for the magenta-clad Elite that was currently firing at the Lieutenant and shot it in the head. It collapsed over the window sill; its body hanging limply in an awkward position with blood dripping onto the concrete floor below.
Another four Elites took its place along with a Brute, and directed their fire to the Captain and Rough. The plasma melted the wood of the boxes, causing them to collapse, completely exposing the Captain and Rough.

"Dive for cover, goddamn it! We sure as hell don't want to lose ya too!" yelled the Lieutenant in despair as Rough dove behind an F-95.
Rienne was frozen in shock, but was quickly awakened as blue plasma shots sizzled past his helmet; one knocked him in the left shoulder. He yelled in pain and collapsed behind the broken boxes, clutching his bloody shoulder. Everything went hazy as he could hear yelling from the Lieutenant, but he didn't faint.

Fight for New Tatley (Chapter 6: Requiring Assistance)
0942 Hours (England Time), October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Main Hangar of ODST Airbase, hiding behind destroyed boxes.

"Shit, provide some covering fire!" gunfire rattled throughout the hangar.
Rienne was face up on the ground; all he could hear was the yells from the Lieutenant, Rough, and the other marines.

"Hurry up and drag him over here, he's not gonna last long behind those shattered boxes!" more gunfire followed and Rienne felt a pair of hands sweep from his underarms and he could feel himself being dragged along the cold floor.
Rienne was sore where the plasma bolt had hit him; his head flopped down and he could see that he was bleeding badly. The blood was seeping out onto the concrete floor as he was being dragged across it. Then more plasma bolts shot down in front of him where the boxes were; splinters of wood shot out in all directions. Finally he came to a halt behind an F-94, the older version of the space maneuverable jet; and once again everything went hazy.
Sergeant "Rough" came into his view holding a first-aid kit. She bent over him and said something, but it was muffled out by the sound of hailing plasma. Rienne felt like he was going to die. Then a sharp pain jabbed into his shoulder as Rough filled it with biofoam, the Captains vision returned to normal. The Sergeant carefully removed the sniper rifle that Rienne still had slung on his scorched shoulder.

"Take this ya bastards." said Rough silently; but loud enough for Rienne to hear.
Several shots rang out, and the yells of the Elites and Brutes only lasted a few seconds and then ceased. Now he could hear footsteps of the Lieutenant and marines shuffling over to him.

"How's he doing? That shot must've done more damage then I suspected." The voice of the Lieutenant was muffled still, and then he almost slipped into unconsciousness but Rough noticed Rienne's weariness and slapped him in the face to keep him awake.
The pain came from far away, and he just barely felt it. Rough bent in front of his face and mouthed something, but he could no longer hear it. Then the dark hands of unconsciousness grabbed onto the Captain and the room and faces of the shocked marines disappeared.

Unknown Time, October 2, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Medical Zone of ODST Airbase, on stretcher slipping into coma.

"Wait! Look at the LSS, his vitals are back to normal!" Rienne could barely hear the unknown voice of a female.

"We're bringing him into surgery, gotta clean and stitch up that wound." another voice echoed through his mind.
The wheels of the stretcher squeaked on the tiled floor and then the movement of the stretcher stopped, he must've been in the surgery room.

"I think we don't have to use the analgesic gas, he's still in a coma." repeated the female voice.
I'm not in a coma!, Rienne tried to say it but the only thing that came out of his mouth was a grunt. What he said was true at the moment, but then the hands of unconsciousness grabbed him again and did not let go for several days.

1731 Hours (England Time), October 12, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Medical Zone of ODST Airfield, laying on bed in recovery room.

"General, you just came in the nick of time, he's waking up." said the familiar voice that he had heard several days ago. "Vitals returning to normal, heart rate increasing, he should be awake now according to the LSS."
Rienne opened his weary eyes; he was confused, in front of his bed stood a blonde nurse and Anderson.

"Where am I?" asked the dazed and wounded Captain.

"It's a branch of the airbase, we're under ground right now, you took a pretty hard hit, and have been in a coma for a good ten days now." said the General, "It's a wonder that you managed to wake up so early."
Rienne rubbed his eyes; IV tubes were stuck into his arms. The nurse stepped over beside his bed and quickly pulled the plastic tubes out. The Captain gasped in pain, but he dealt with it and then managed to step out of the bed. He was still dressed in UNSC military uniform and his left shoulder was bandaged up.

"Reinforcements have arrived at New Tatley, well, actually one reinforcement has. He is known as the "Master Chief", and we are fortunate that he has come to our town." Rienne's hopes were lifted at the sound of that, he had heard the doings of this man. "Follow me."
Rienne followed him to the elevator where they continued to talk about the Master Chief; then rode up to the control tower. They walked over to the window; bodies of the Covenant and ODST's were being cleaned up from the runways. Blood was splattered everywhere, different colors and shades.
They walked back to a desk that held many unfamiliar devices on it; Rienne could only tell that one was a transmission receiver, it picked up all transmissions between people no matter what.

"Can you confirm that you can get a Pelican to our position?"

"Affirmative, Delta base, Pelican en route to your position."
These were just some of the communications coming in over the receiver, Anderson turned towards Rienne.

"The Sergeant that has taken command at New Tatley has told me that he has gone with a couple other marines to an Orbiter above the city." said the General happily, "They said if they needed any help they would—"
The General's receiver was flashing red, meaning that someone was trying to contact him personally.

"General Anderson? Hello its Cortana, we need an immediate assault on the Covenant Orbiter above New Tatley! Are you able to carry this out?" asked the AI.

"Cortana? Who's we, and how many men do we need to send?" responded the General flatly.

"We as in a Spartan and four other marines, and send as many people as you can, this is a large ship." replied the AI.

"What are you planning to do inside?" asked the ODST General.

"You leave that to us, we'll first blow out the shields so you can attack, then be ready to pick us up, we'll leave you a surprise." answered Cortana.

"I love surprises Cortana, over and out." said Anderson before he turned off his radio.

"Can you fly an F-95, Captain, 'cause that would helluva help a lot of us." said the General to Rienne, the Captain had been trained to fly and he nodded.
The General walked over to an intercom and announced, "All ODST Troopers who exceed Airman First Class please get to the hangars, we are going to help out a friend."
Then he told Rienne to follow him, and in about five minutes they emerged into the hangar where Rienne had been shot, at least twenty men were there.

"Get into your fighters! Follow my lead, the damn ship is over New Tatley and we gonna show that Orbiter that they shouldn't have parked there!" barked Anderson as he climbed into the cockpit via a ladder, everyone else did as well.
Rienne climbed into a random F-95 and soon an alarm started blaring and the flat square roof of the hangar started to open. He flipped all the necessary switches on and soon the engine roared to life. Slowly he lifted the throttle up so the jet would ascend, but the hangar only allowed five or so F-95's to pass through. In minutes they were all following the blue F-95 which was General Andersons, and soon he made everyone report in.
It only took a few minutes to get everyone to report in, but soon the General ordered everyone to hit the thrusters so they could break free of the atmosphere. The cockpit of Rienne's F-95 shook as they hit the atmosphere, soon they had cleared it and stars dotted the now black sky. The menacing alien spacecraft loomed ahead of them, the light from the sun bounced off the sheen blue metal onto the approaching F-95's.
Soon they would be fighting to save a couple marines and a Spartan inside the Orbiter, but it would be worth it.

Fight for New Tatley Finale (Chapter 9: Saving New Tatley)

Fight for New Tatley Finale (Chapter 9: Saving New Tatley)
1740 Hours (England Time), October 12, 2552 (Earth Calendar) In F-95 Space Maneuverable Fighter Jet, nearing Covenant Orbiter.

The Pelicans had just joined up with the rest of the F-95's, Rienne let out a sigh. The Orbiter was close, and the Captain was in the middle of the F-95 attack group.

"Everyone get ready, we will be able to strike this Orbiter in a matter of minutes, and we're too far to attack this second." Anderson's voice came in clear over the all-hands freq.
No one responded, it was silent; the sight was breath-taking as the moon emerged from behind the Orbiter. The Covenant ship must not have seen or picked up a signal that at least twenty-five human fighter jets were approaching. Several minutes passed and they were finally in range of the Orbiter.

"Don't fire just yet, remember the Covenant have shields on their ships." once again the ODST General's voice echoed through Rienne's mind.
They were waiting for the Spartan inside to knock out the shields so they could get some shots on the Covenant spaceship. Rienne looked outside of the cockpit, below him the Earth reflected the light rays sent by the sun, he could barely see the surface of the planet. Seraph fighters could be seen in the distance traveling in packs battling with the Longsword fighters. Silent explosions could be seen from the Captains position, in some way it was beautiful.
More minutes floated by and suddenly the Orbiter shook, "They must've taken out the shields! All ships engage!" ordered General Anderson over the radio transmitter. Rienne held the trigger on the grip and bullets flew from the twin guns, they pinged off the alien ship's hull and punctured millions of holes in the view port window. The squadron ceased fire, the familiar scream of Banshee's interrupted the stillness.
The ODST's had some more opposition.
Rienne hit the thrusters and his ship twisted around to face one of the many Banshee's approaching them. He hit a button on the control stick that caused the F-95 to fire a SPNKr homing missile (a variation of the Rocket Launcher SPNKr rocket) and it hit the closest Banshee, knocking off the wing and causing it to trail smoke. Rienne finished the aircraft with several shots to the cockpit and it exploded, it just floated there on fire.
Heat came from behind; Rienne twisted the ship so he faced the cause. A destroyed F-95 drifted into his view, it had broken in half and the pilot had floated out. Rienne continued to fight for another few minutes until Anderson ordered everyone to get into a line. They were more vulnerable grouped together but they would have better fire-power.
Several Banshee's came attacking at once, and the ODST team directed their weapons fire to the first and then second. An unnoticed Banshee managed to sneak by the weapons fire and let loose a fuel rod shot. It sped towards the F-95 beside Rienne causing it to explode, Rienne's spacecraft rocked as the blast swept over his F-95. Soon the Banshee was exterminated by shots from the other spacecrafts. Even the Pelican's were helping out, the chin guns attached to the nose of the crafts worked well.
They had been fighting for twenty minutes at the least when Anderson ordered everyone to follow him, the last of the Banshee's were being mopped up. They had only lost five or six ODST troopers and fighter jets, not bad considering they now had the upper hand. The Orbiter was slanted; a large black abrasion was easily noticed on the Orbiters center, probably an explosion from the inside. The blue F-95 which was General Andersons led the remaining squadron to the docking bay of the Covenant spaceship. The General was the first to enter the bay and touch down on the unknown metal floor, the rest of the F-95's and Pelican's followed suit.

"Everyone out, we are gonna cover this docking bay until our friends arrive, so that means we keep the Covenant outta here." ordered the General over the COM, the Captain hopped out of the cockpit and onto the floor.
He was soon joined by the General and pilots of the other F-95's and Pelicans; everyone had a nervous look about them.

"Ok everyone, the Pelicans were loaded up with Battle Rifles and Pistols and plenty of ammo, grab somethin' and get ready for a fight." ordered Anderson.

"Is this all worth it, sir?" asked an ODST, everyone turned to face him.

"If saving New Tatley isn't worth it, then I don't know what is. They are gonna bomb that town soon, so that's why we have to destroy this Orbiter."
The marines murmured, "Everyone grab a weapon and some ammunition!" everyone did what they were told. Soon the ODST's occupied the whole bottom floor with weapons, the General stood on top of a Pelican with a pistol in one hand and a grenade in the other.

"Here they come, marines!" ordered the General as the sound of footsteps broke the deathly silence of the docking bay.
The roar of an Elite could be heard from the top ledge, then another roar could be heard from a Hunter on the second ledge followed by more footsteps. The first visual of the Covenant was several Jackals who had leaned over the ledge and been brutally shot with a pistol. Their carcasses had been dragged and thrown out of the docking bay.
The blue plasma bolts came from the top ledge and the ODST's quickly returned fire, silence. That's odd, thought Rienne; shouldn't there be more of these bastards? To answer his question Grunts stormed in through a door on the left, the marines started shooting as the Covenant cannon fodder ducked behind some purple metal boxes.
      They were a distraction.
Two plasma grenades plummeted towards the marines from above; one harmlessly attached itself to an F-95 and promptly exploded. The second stuck to a marines arm and he ran behind the boxes where the Grunts had hidden and a blue explosion ensued. The cadavers of the Grunts flew in all directions, hitting walls and fighter jets.
Six Elites came out of the door that the Grunts came out of, then three Jackals came out of another door while two Hunters came out hiding from the second ledge.
      The battle had begun.
Rienne raised his Battle Rifle to an Elite, he quickly shot it in the head five times to relieve it of its protective shields. It was quickly finished by the shots of a M6D Pistol by the General. One of the Hunters fired a fuel rod cannon at the middle of the ODST's; they just made it by jumping out of the way. Only two marines were tossed out of the docking bay entrance and quickly suffocated in the void of space.
Two of the Jackals had already fallen; the remaining Jackal was in a corner hiding behind the protection of the plasma shield when Anderson had thrown his grenade behind it. The frag exploded, sending the alien in two pieces across the docking bay, the top half landing on the second ledge. Rienne spun around as soon as he heard the hearty roar of an Elite, it towered over him, unafraid. Before the alien could attack, the Captain shoved the BR into the stomach of the Elite. He held the trigger until the aliens shields depleted, the clip of his weapon had run out though, and Rienne hit the creature as hard as he could with the butt of his weapon.
The creature fell on the ground, but rose back up with two shattered mandibles which now hung loosely from his face. It attempted to lift its weapon until Rienne hit it across the face once again, although this time the creature fell down for good. Blood seeped from the alien's shattered helmet and onto the floor. The good feeling of killing one of the superior Covenant didn't last long as he saw two marines get shot down by an Elite.
More Hunters appeared through the doors, and continued havoc against the ODST's. When was the Spartan going to get to the docking bay? It would be better sooner than later.
Anderson had taken out some more Hunters with his Pistol, he was a deadly shot. The Captain zoomed in with his Battle Rifle on a Grunt and fired repeatedly until the glowing blue blood splashed all around the body. More Jackals entered the battle along with some Elites, another marine was shot and died from loss of blood.

"Take this you bastards!" yelled a marine as he tossed a grenade into a group of incoming Elites, it exploded only killing two and took out the shields of the others.
Rienne ignored the shots of plasma going by his face and shot at the susceptible Elites, each one was taken down at a time causing purple-blue blood to spray the walls.
A lone Jackal popped out from behind a box beside Rienne, the alien jumped back in surprise and got a smack from Rienne's weapon. The Jackal rolled over several times before coming to a halt in a pool of its own blood.
The battle was coming to a close.
A marine came up to him and gave him a grenade; Rienne put it to good use as he chucked it to a large group of Grunts. It exploded sending the little bastards everywhere in pieces, the odd colored alien blood now covered most of the docking bay.
From above, the Spartan had finally made his way to the fight.
The marines he was with ran down the ramps to the conflict and went to one of the Pelican pilots and told him to start it up. The familiar sounds of a sniper rifle being shot could be heard from the top ledge, it was the Spartan. An Elite was felled, followed by two Jackals and a Grunt. A Hunter was taken down; the sticky orange blood covered the ground.
The belly jets of a Pelican were noticed by Rienne, he spun around to see one of the aircrafts hovering. The Spartan was making his way down the ramps to the bottom floor, along his way he kicked some of the Covenant off the ledges, killing them as soon as they hit the ground. When an injured Hunter who was lingering near the docking bay opening attempted to swing his massive shield at him the Spartan kicked him and he fell out into space.
It suffocated and the head exploded, sending bits of the helmet in various directions.

"Get into the F-95's! We're gettin' out of here, boys!" yelled Anderson over the last few sounds of weapons fire.
Each surviving marine got into a fighter jet; at least four F-95's were unoccupied. The Spartan had gone into the Pelican along with the marines he was with, they had set a bomb in the Central Core of the Orbiter, it was soon to explode.
The ODST fleet exited the docking bay, leaving the dead marines and aliens behind. It was a battle to remember.

1770 Hours (England Time), October 12, 2552 (Earth Calendar)/Seated in Pelican, escaping from Covenant Orbiter set to explode.

      "7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...." counted down Cortana for the bomb.
A little tiny explosion in the center of the ship could be seen at first, then a larger explosion and another until it looked like a spear had gone through the middle of the ship. The heat wave passed through space, hitting the Chief and marines they winced and watched on. A wall of fire then ripped through the entire middle of the ship, tearing it into two pieces. The front of the ship spun around while the back (containing the explosive tanks) exploded again and again until there was nothing left.

Fight for New Tatley: Conclusion

The ODST fleet was given medals for doing such a good job on the Orbiter, New Tatley was saved. The Covenant left New Tatley after the destruction of the Orbiter; the remaining Covenant troops were killed or taken hostage for UNSC purposes. Rienne was given separate medals for his previous actions before he helped destroy the Orbiter, and after the Covenant were completely ridden of the city, Rienne was promoted to Major. Although somewhere in his mind he knew that it wasn't going to be the last time he encountered Covenant.
