Bravo team continued to slowly advance through the forest. Their team, which composed of: Master Chief John-117, PFC Poyer, PFC Sharpe, and Sgt. Johnson. With the exception of the Master Chief, they were all ODST 3rd division: the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. The famous Hell Jumpers. The chief had requested for them to assist rather than typical marines. Johnson, Sharpe, and Poyer were all the top of their class. That's why the chief chose them. Poyer is the youngest of them all, still with a cocky grin like a kid that just beat his friend at anti-grav ball. Sharpe is the middle-aged man. He's also one of the best snipers this side of the galaxy. He was born with a rifle. Johnson is the old man of the team. A real cigar chewing son-of-a-bitch. He's seen a lot of combat, and has trained a lot of soldiers. The chief is the second oldest, and without a doubt, the best in the team.
At the rate that they were moving it would take forever to get to Delta team. They were being sent to give back-up because there was a major increase in covenant activity in the area. So Keyes figured that they could use some help if the covenant decide to stir up some trouble in that area. But at the rate that they were going, when they got there for all they know they could have attacked already. And they couldn't contact them; because that would risk giving away both teams positions.

The chief had the point, seeing as he can hear a whisper from 300 meters. Which would come in handy. The chief was about 10 meters ahead of the next person in the formation. As they made their slow advance, the chief raised his fist. Johnson mimicked the gesture, and the order went down the line. And bravo team stopped in their tracks. The chief signaled Johnson up. The sergeant moved up next to him. When he got there, the chief pointed into the distance. Johnson looked out and spotted a covenant patrol, about 200 meters out. The Sergeant turned around and signaled the team to take cover. The rest of the team scattered behind trees and underbrush. John started thinking of what to do, and then he knew. He looked to Sergeant Moore and pointed up. Johnson turned to face the rest of the team and repeated the order. Bravo team disappeared into the trees. It started to get to the point where they could hear them and get a descent view of them.
It was a patrol of two jackals, and three grunts. The jackals are creatures that have a long bird like snout, are about a meter tall, and carry a dome shaped shield in front of them. The grunts are roughly the same height as the jackals, are short and stubby, and have a breathing apparatus on their backs that carries methane, which is what they breath.
They were in a tight column, with the third grunt in the back. Shouldn't be too much trouble. They were rather casually talking back and forth. Mixing in grunts and barks. The chief looked to the rest of the team and pointed down. Then he put up three fingers and started counting down. When his fingers were gone he made a fist, and Bravo team dropped in on top of the patrol. John ran up behind the grunt in the rear, and drove the butt of his assault rifle into his back. And just as the grunt next to him started to turn and aim... the chief gave him a swift kick in the face. Which made a series of snapping sounds. He was too slow. After dealing with them, John looked up and saw that the rest of the patrol was almost oriented to fire on him. So he leveled his assault rifle and held the trigger down. Smoke and flame erupted from the rifle. Alien blood was sprayed all over the ground. The two grunts fell to the ground, but the jackals turned their shields to the chief and began firing. John jumped and rolled his way to the cover of a tree.
The jackal on the right pinned down the chief while the other pinned down the rest of the team. Their plasma bolts hitting the trees that were their cover. Burning away the bark, and searing through the wood. The chief got an idea. He picked up a good-sized rock and looked around the tree. He threw it behind the jackals. They started turning towards the loud noise that it made. And that was when the chief moved out and was on top of them before they could turn around. He gave a swift hit in the back for the one jackal, and just as he turned to the other. He saw that he had his weapon pointing at him. That was when an APFSDS round went through his head. It was Sharpe. A world-class sniper. After the jackal fell to the ground, and lay in his own pool of purple blood. Then Sharpe walked up and said: "hey, I wasn't about to let you have them all." To this, the chief replied: "why didn't you do that sooner?"
      "Couldn't get a clear shot."
Then Poyer added: "you, not get a clear shot?"
"It's kind of hard to when you have one of those bastards shooting constantly. Besides, I didn't see you doing much."
Poyer scoffed, and walked towards the chief. "What now chief?"
      "We continue on our way."
      "Yes, sir!"
The chief went over to the aliens' bodies and looked over their wounds. He kicked one to make sure it was dead. It lay still. He then knelt down and collected its shield, and weapon. And then went over and repeated the process for the other members of the patrol. The chief went to the last alien in the patrol and started gathering its things. Then Poyer strolled up with his assault rifle over his shoulder.
      "What ya doing there chief?"
"Command gave orders to gather alien technology at any opportunity we get. So that's what I'm doing. Here, carry these." John handed Poyer a couple of plasma pistols and a shield. Poyer took them and stuck them in his combat pack. Then John signaled the others over.
"Here, everybody carries technology with them." And with that he started handing out the things he collected to the marines. They stuck them in packs and pockets. Sharpe stood there looking at one of the plasma pistols that he'd be carrying. He then asked: "sir, did command specify whether we can use the weapons that we pick up?"
      "If it is necessary."
"Sir, I don't know about you. But I can't wait to see the look on those bastards faces when they see us shooting their own weapons at them."
Then the sarge added: "yeah, makes you wish you had a camera with you all the time don't it?" The team gave a few laughs and chuckles. The chief smiled. Although it was not to be seen by the rest of the team, due to his face shield.
The marines finished gathering and stowing the equipment they gathered and continued on their way. They were now even more cautious than before. And as they continued through trees, the master chief started to think. What if that patrol doesn't report in, and the covenant decide to send someone to find out what happened? That would be a problem. That's when he had a thought.
"Cortana, are you monitoring the channels for covenant reports?" Cortana is the AI that's contained in John's suit. She can intercept communications, and give battle reports with lightning speed.
      "Of course." She responded.
      "Have you heard anything yet?"
"Actually, there seems to be a strangely low amount of broadcasts lately."
"Has there been anything important over the net?"
"No. What I have been hearing is just radio chatter. Conversations, more or less. Why?"
The chief explained: "because I get the feeling that when nobody hears from that patrol we took down. That they may decide to send someone down to find out what happened. Which would put us in a very bad position."
As the chief continued to walk through the forest, he stopped. The rest of the team halted. The sergeant walked up to the chief.
      "What is it chief?"
"Banshees. At least four of them."
The sarge and the rest of the team looked up. Sure enough, they could see a flight of five banshees in a V formation coming in their direction. The aircraft had a long almost tear drop shaped body with stubby wings that protruded from it's fuselage and were angled down. The aircraft use antigravity fields to move along, and are armed with a lobbing mortar type weapon called a fuel rod cannon. And they also have twin plasma cannons. They were coming right over the area that they had killed that patrol.
The sergeant added flatly: "search party."
Then the chief signaled to take cover. Everyone disappeared into the brush. The scream of the Banshees was getting louder. They were getting closer. John looked up through the trees, and started tracking them. They flew right overhead. After they passed, the chief climbed into the tree and peeked out of the top and watched them continue on. They kept going. They didn't see them. John let out a sigh of relief.
"Cortana, do me a favor and remember the altitude and heading of those Banshees. And, could you tell me where they could be going?"
"Unknown. They could be heading for Delta team. But I can't be sure. Because they aren't heading strait for anything."
"Maybe, but I still want for us to speed up. Because if they know that Delta team is there, then they're going to have their hands full. And I want to make sure that if they do, that we'll be there to help them."
That was when Poyer stepped up to the chief. "Chief, what if those Banshees are heading for Delta team?"
John responded: "I know, that's why were going to move faster. Team, from now on when double-time it. Lets get moving." He left it at that. And the team began jogging the rest of the fifteen kilometers. A few minutes later Poyer moved up to the chief and said: "sir, what are be going to do about those Banshees when the time comes?"
"Delta team has a couple of M-19 SSMs with them. Hopefully, they haven't used them all."
The M-19 is a deadly rocket launcher that carries two tubes at once. And when the rocket in one tube is expended, the tube flips and readies another. The rockets that it fires have a deadly shaped charge warhead which when it explodes, it shoots hot molten metal forward. Which cut through the armor and kills the crew inside.
"And what if they have used them all?" He asked.
"Then we'll just have to use what we got." He responded.
To this, Poyer just said: "great. It'll be a chance for me to show you all this mad skill that I got. You'll see."
Then the sergeant added: "yeah, we'll see."
