The Codex - Full-length
Whoa, blast from the past. Back in 2005, Edgeworks Entertainment released The Codex, a 20-part Halo 2 machinima project that was popular and impressively made. Last week, they released the full-length (unsegmented) version of the film, as seen on their Sponsorship DVD more than 8 years ago. If you missed this - it's worth seeing. Go check it out! Thanks, thereIwasn't. (Louis Wu 20:50:06 UTC)

Halo: War Journal 'Last Dance'
zech ray found a decent piece of machinima linked from the Codex Series forums - it's a trailer for Halo: War Journal 'Last Dance', and it's hosted at YouTube. It tells the story of a heroic last stand by 300 Spartans against an overwhelming Covenant force. If you've got an extra 5 minutes this Saturday, take a look! (Louis Wu 22:17:38 UTC)

The Heretic Drama Trailer
Nerrolken, of the Edgeworks Entertainment team (the guys who created the Codex Series last year), sent word that they've released The Heretic Trailer, the first of two. This is the Drama Trailer - the next will be the Action Trailer. It gives you a taste of the storyline of the upcoming Heretic series. It's available in QuickTime format (12.6 mb), and WMP9 format (7.2 mb). Looks to be a fantastic series! Check it out. (Louis Wu 03:41:22 UTC)

The Heretic Teaser
The team that brought you The Codex series last year has released an Announcement Teaser for The Heretic, an upcoming series. Spectacular editing work, married to pristine camera handling, all bundled up with a gorgeous new piece from Edgen, called 'Halo - The Heretic' - this one should SERIOUSLY whet your appetite. Grab it in QuickTime or WMP9 formats from The Heretic website. If you love the music as much as we do, Edgen has given us permission to host a copy of it, in MP3 format - 2.3 mb. (And if you want to check out more of Edgen's work, visit his portfolio reel - there's some amazing stuff in there.) Comments (on either The Heretic, or its music) can be added to Nerrolken's forum thread. (Louis Wu 00:21:09 UTC)

Edgeworks - no, The Codex - no...
We got mail from Nerrolken about some big updates over at The Codex Series website. Well... it's more than just the Codex Series site at this point, which is part of the big news - but there's more. Go read it all. (Louis Wu 23:37:25 UTC)

Machinima - the local angle
There's a sizeable article (5000 words) on the Codex crew (The Codex is a pretty well-known, and well-done, Halo machinima project) - a nice read. A bit disappointing that they've all moved on from Halo, though... (Louis Wu 23:29:39 UTC)

The Codex on MTV
The Codex Series has gotten a lot of attention this year - and rightly so; it's a pretty impressive machinima series from a lot of different perspectives. Recently, the entire crew headed out to LA to film a piece for mtvU's Gamer's Ball - they've written up the entire experience (with pictures) on their website. The show will air sometime next week - keep an eye out for it! (Louis Wu 15:16:57 UTC)

DropShock Ep 4
DropShock has posted Episode 4 of their podcast - they look over the Bungie weekly update, the Codex series, and loser online gamers, among other subjects. This one is definitely aimed at adults. MP3 format, 34 mb, an hour and a quarter long. (Louis Wu 15:34:34 UTC)

H=MC2 Podcast Ep 002 - The Codex
The second H=MC2 podcast has been posted - Halo news roundup and commentary, plus an interview with Alex Winn, part of the Codex team. (It's not a 'live' interview; Alex answered a series of pre-planned questions, so there's no interaction with the hosts of the podcast - but it's still a good listen; nice questions, nice answers.) The overall podcast is 1:08 long, and weighs in at 31 mb. Thanks to [HC]D-Man for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 13:40:37 UTC)

Sponsor the Codex
The Codex Series, a popular machinima series, has finished its first season, but is still seeing serious amounts of web traffic. (One of the news posts on their front page right now talks about numbers - they're pretty high.) To recoup some of their investment, they're offering sponsorships - there aren't any episodes to see, but if you donate enough, they'll send you a DVD, containing the full first season, plus plenty of extras. (Give 'em $50 or more, they'll even autograph it for you.) (Louis Wu 19:11:27 UTC)

The End of All Things
Episode 20 of the Codex, the final of the series, was released a few hours ago. It's currently only available in QuickTime, but WMP9 should be coming later today. Thirteen and a half minutes long, this is a fitting end to a spectacular series - plenty of action, drama, suspense... great filming, great overall production values. Check it out! While you're there, look around the site - it's been overhauled. Each video has its own page now (with much more info than before), and there's a new online store, selling t-shirts, and the Codex Soundtrack. (Louis Wu 12:28:00 UTC)

Rallying The Troops
The Codex Series Episode 18, 'Rallying The Troops', has been released - I think one of the scriptwriters has been watching Independence Day. It's a nicely inspirational episode, and the troop rally is wonderfully filmed. Currently available only in QuickTime (about 86 mb), but WMP9 coming today - go download! Thanks to many - first was FxH Spartan II. (Louis Wu 12:47:06 UTC)

Play the Codex on your PSP
Trigger119 posted a note on our forum, pointing to a page on halomachinima.com; he's made all the episodes to date of The Codex Series (17 in all) available in a format readable by your PSP. (There are also standard WMP9 and QuickTime mirror links, to take some of the strain off the Codex Series website.) Check it out! (Louis Wu 15:13:22 UTC)

The Praeceptor
The Codex, Episode 17, has been posted over at their website... and man, this one's pretty cool. The Praeceptor has been awakened! Really nice video and audio effects... though I gotta say, I'm not particularly happy about how the battle went. 46-60 mb, depending on the flavor you choose. (Louis Wu 00:09:19 UTC)

The Codex - smaller downloads
Dennis Powers sends word that he's re-encoded the Codex Series vids to be a more appropriate filesize for the 320x240 presentation they are generally released with; the new files should be much more palatable to bandwidth-challenged downloaders. You can find the new versions in the 'Codex' section of the GearboxGameZone Movies site. (Louis Wu 18:12:23 UTC)

Episode 16: Betrayal
Episode 16 of the Codex Series has been posted on their website - it focuses on the power struggle between the Praetor and the Cleric, and shows some great voice and camera work. The main QuickTime version has a problem - it will crash your player at around 5:08 - so get either the brightened QuickTime or the WMP9 versions instead. (The team is aware of the problem, and will fix it some time tomorrow.) Thanks to The An7i Flag for the heads-up. (Louis Wu 06:05:38 UTC)

Cry Havoc!
The Codex Series has posted not one, but TWO new movies in the last few hours - Episode 15 has finally been released (long wait, but worth it!), and a Behind The Scenes vid is up, as well. Check their news page for both links. Episode 15 is action, action, action - really nice work! Currently only in QuickTime format (88.6 mb), but their standard release stuff is coming later this morning. The behind-the-scenes stuff mixes blooper footage with live-action stuff showing the crew behind the vids. Thanks to The An7i Flag for the heads-up! (Louis Wu 10:00:36 UTC)

The Codex, Episode 14, has been released - this one keeps getting better. Great filming, great voice work, an interesting storyline. Nice cliffhanger, even. Go watch - and let 'em know what you think! (QuickTime and WMP9 formats.) (Louis Wu 13:01:58 UTC)
